Hey there,
I just converted my mybb forum to SMF due to their selling out to Facebook.  Everything went smoothly but now I need help on how to transfer my URL.  For example, my existing mybb forum is at hxxp:example.com [nonactive], and my new SMF forum is at hxxp:example.com/smf [nonactive].  So how do I go about making my SMF forum link to hxxp:example.com [nonactive]?

I don't want to destroy my mybb forum just yet, I just want my members to use the SMF forum to try it out and get accustomed to it.

Any help would talk me back from the ledge. lol

Um, you did know that MyBB selling out to Facebook was an April Fool's Day joke, right? (It even says "Disclaimer: look at the date this was posted" on the blog article.)

In any case, you can't have both forums using the same URL - if you want example.com to point to the forum, you need to move the files out of the smf folder into the top level folder.

lol No, I didn't know that was a joke.  Ah well.  Now I get to try SMF for a while.  Great joke!  :-\

And basically what you're saying is that my directory hierarchy determines what gets 'top billing' so to speak?  It seems like it could be a lot simpler than moving every related file.  I can't just redirect queries for hxxp:example.com [nonactive] to hxxp:example.com/smfforum [nonactive]?  Or somehow switch URLs?

Thanks for replying btw.

If you want to switch urls, then you need to move files... Plain and simple.

However, you can use htaccess to force any access to the base site URL to bounce  to the forum directory.

Thanks for the knowledge.  It just confuses me that both SMF and mybb have forms in their control panels to change the URLs.  I tried that first and it just screwed everything up.  :D

I really like what I've seen of SMF by the way.  You've done a great job with it.

Thanks again.

You can't just change the URL in the admin without changing the ACTUAL URL.... Which means moving files first...
