Just experienced something new (to me at least) about the notify system, it emailed me about someone quoting one of my posts!!

Does it do that for the Likes & Mentions features as well?

This is so awesome, now that I can relax somewhat and explore the new stuff after getting several of my favorite modules tweaked to function adequately in this version, I'm getting pretty anxious as the date for the debut of a new game module of my own approaches...

Granted that the differences of traffic load between my site and here at the support site are much different, I myself have experienced a VAST improvement in page load times & navigation response speed beginning almost immediately after migrating to 2.1 (noting that I did this on my production site) and I'm more confident with each day to say its a safe bet that the rest of the year, and beyond, will be epic for all of us...

As a side note....   nice to find someone else who uses the term "cool beans" :D

Must be because we's old school we is, chuckle...

;)

OH, keep forgetting to offer, but you folks are more than welcome to utilize the live audio/video conferencing tool at my site, it hasn't been tested with a load much more than three or four people logged in simultaneously but I haven't had any major trouble with it for months, not as good as skype but close and not nearly the resource hog that the big boys are, great for small groups... it would be a handy tool for you guys to have live meetings about the new version... pm's are so slow, yuk

Damn Arantor!! I pictured you as a bit older... how about you Kindred? Do I have a big head start to the afterlife with you too?

Best Regards,
Bob Perry

I have a joinme account... :D   live meetings don't work so well when people don't all speak clear English - and accents are terrible to interpret over the speakers....

I'm in my 40s :D won't say exactly where (although it can be puzzled out if anyone cares to search)

I'd distract you with an almost-Received-Pronunciation English accent when I'm not mumbling out of shyness.

I hear ya, that's why I mostly use the text chatting feature, although I have a a very nice connection/PC and haven't had any major difficulty on my side with streaming, it allows me to import my facebook/Gtalk friends, its more convenient than skipping back and forth between my site and facebook/google, and the text chatting feature works great for mobile devices as well, but audio/video features for mobile devices unsupported for my current version and are way too expensive to purchase for my taste, it don't work THAT great, the version I did purchase was bad enough on my finances, its going to take forever to get ROI for that puppy, but I pretty much like it, easy to integrate with SMF but admin site usage statistics available could use a big boost and support is pretty slow...

Having studied & worked computer science related areas of the IT industry, and now being retired affords me a fair amount of time to stay on top of keeping my personal systems in top performance status, not perfect, but I rarely have any down time with my personal systems...

You think you have trouble? I only have 4 teeth left in my head dude, and no dentures yet, pronouncing words that contain s is such a pain sometimes, but I'm pretty good most of the time, I fall back on my drill instructor voice when i have trouble with it lol...

No, they were written from scratch, partly for licensing reasons and partly for performance ones.

I wrote the first draft of both systems in SMF 2.1 if you're curious though both were tweaked in various ways since I stopped.

Question on this: Are these ports of both SMFPacks Likes (http://www.smfpacks.com/likes) and SMFPacks Mentions (http://www.smfpacks.com/mentionsmod) mods?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

I visited your site, nice... bought ya a cup of coffee... tho don't see an easy way to view the memberlist? In a few minutes I'm going to attempt installing that mod in my new 2.1 site, where I tweak the memberlist to display the BuyMeADrink icon to be searchable...

Best Regards,
Bob Perry

@Arantor

You may be able to quickly help me resolve a couple mod install problems that I've got here...

There are two mods that are giving me some trouble, they are not able to do their callbacks?

Message says "The callable xxxxx could not be called."

This leads to a couple other errors but I think if I knew where to tell the system to get the callable it would resolve the other errors maybe...

The mods in question are RSS Feeder & BuyMeADrink...

kinda stumped but I'll get there eventually

Best Regards,
Bob Perry

How about you ask the mod author?

understood, it's cool, I'll get to it eventually...

Arantor,

Sounds good Sir. I just purchased SMFPacks' Mentions mod about a week before finding out about a similar feature being in 2.1 core. I am happy though because I like SMFP and enjoy sponsoring mod'ers like NIBOGO who put good effort like that out there to benefit the SMF community :)

Hey Mr Perry! Thank you very much!! You know we've had that mod installed since 2012 (original post) and I think you're the 2nd person to do this haha love it :D

Hmmmmmm? Ohhh wow just logged out and visited our site and see the memberlist is not accessible to guests. I wonder when it was that I decided to do this..... security purposes? *scratches head* I went ahead and enabled the member list for guests. ;)

Nice idea on BuyMeADrink for the memberlist. I went ahead and coded that in (link). Adding the ability to sort it looks to be more work than my priorities will allow for now.

Yea its pretty neat, but like you, VERY little member participation or acknowledgement of it being useful, still, functionally the mod is sound... after I used VBgamer's Downloads Pro module to monetize all the other mods that use the "credits" system, I felt compelled to keep that module active on my system to easily allow "me" to be able to pay "them", or, them make payments to each other, where appropriate, regarding financial transactions with a couple other non-credit modules i have where it would be a hell of a lot faster turn around than it is without that mod, for example, say someone wins the high bid in my auctions module at $100, by default there is no PayPal interface associated with the auctions module, but with this its a snap to settle up with a $100 cup of coffee!, however, there ARE flaws (like taking into account and informing the members beforehand that PayPal takes a small slice of the pie from the receiver), and also some minor bugs in this "method" that need to be addressed before i am ready to start openly "push" marketing that ability in earnest, but the problems are not severe enough to completely disable the feature either, it works, but the bugs will have to wait until i free up some time to focus on it... it'll be a bit too, because currently I'm highly upset and very busy socially with the country's current political situation after receiving some shocking info this morning, but I'll not go into a rant on that here...

Yes, its not a quick and dirty edit, but very cool when correct, my own preference is not to have directional search enabled for that particular menu header, I set both directions to DESC rather than ASC for one and DESC on the other, reason being with such small participation the list is not usually very long anyway so it makes more sense in my mind to only have one direction listing all at top of page no matter how many times they click the column header, it makes little difference which one you use for both, i prefer DESC to be different lol...

oh, unsuccessful with adding it to 2.1 so far... gonna have to wait a bit till more quality time available

Best Regards,
Bob Perry
