I have been getting errors accessing index.php

This is the message from my hoster. (about 6 ip addresses were causing problems, 1 of them mine)

"The error logs show the following:

hobs-gaming.org.uk [Mon Jul 20 19:49:30 2015] [error] [client 178.154.243.75:45968] Script timed out before returning headers: index.php

hobs-gaming.org.uk [Mon Jul 20 19:54:30 2015] [warn] [client 178.154.243.75:45968] AH01220: Timeout waiting for output from CGI script /home/sites/hobs-gaming.org.uk/public_html/forum/index.php

There is some issue with the file public_html/forum/index.php. Have you made the amendments to make sure the file terminates correctly? If not, there is most likely a coding issue on or related to that page"

Any advice how to fix this? or what to look for?

Thanks

margarett

Hi and welcome to sm.org ;)

In fact your forum does "hang" while loading. I wasn't even able to open it.

However, it is impossible to track the issue just by your description. In SMF everything is routed through index.php so it can literally be *anything* causing that issue. Without me being able to open it, even worse.
So we need to know:
SMF version?
Mods installed?
Theme in use?
Any custom coding in place? (eg, ads, game server updates, etc?)
Se forem conduzir, não bebam. Se forem beber... CHAMEM-ME!!!! :D

Hi and thanks

There hasn't been any changes made to the forum setup/layout recently.

1) V. seems to be 2.0.10
2) mods/packages:
Add_Social_Media_Icons_To_Profiles_v1.1.0
reglinks
SMFGallery5.0.1
ultimate_profile-0-9-1_20
3) There's a few themes availible - I use armageddon
(Themes: ambassador_2_0 / armageddon / Blackstorm_U / core / default / Design10 / Fumes / Gamerz)
4) no custom coding

index.php code:

<?php

/* This, as you have probably guessed, is the crux on which SMF functions.
Everything should start here, so all the setup and security is done
properly.  The most interesting part of this file is the action array in
the smf_main() function.  It is formatted as so:

'action-in-url' => array('Source-File.php', 'FunctionToCall'),

Then, you can access the FunctionToCall() function from Source-File.php
with the URL index.php?action=action-in-url.  Relatively simple, no?

Kindred

please use code tags when posting code...

however, in this case, you did not need to post the code since the issue is almost certainly NOT in the actual index.php file

If nothing was changed in SMF then it points to something in the server.

There is really no good way to diagnose it unfortunately (at least, that I know of). Your host could help you with this, by tracking what is currently being accessed by PHP. The way I see it, one of the following might be happening:
a) an endless loop in PHP's code (unlikely as it should trigger a memory exhausted error in few seconds - and you said that no changes were performed)
b) a query taking toooooo long (which should trigger a timeout in MySQL but it depends on the server configuration)
c) some external resource being accessed (eg, via cURL) and not finishing. It shouldn't be anything JavaScript related because usually the page would start to render.

Also, can you get us a phpinfo?

I asked host to provide info as above:

Please note their comment: "You may want to add that to their forum that the cache folder can cause issues when resetting a site"

"Further to your email, according to the error logs for your hosting plan (web stats & logs > log file download)

Hi

Thank you for the information. I don't really understand how that can happen but it seems it can.

What does "resetting a site" means?
