you really should be posting in the simple portal support topic or in their support forum for further help. they know how it is coded and may know right off why the button is missing.

They look like two different themes actually.

however - notice the large space after the "home" menu item?

Looks to me as if the user is missing some text strings

If you enlarge the pic of the one marked "My forum" you can see the word 'Forum' but the colour is wrong.
Afraid I can't help with that though.

The user wants to change the defautl home page to the forum index and wants a portal button instead of a forum button?

that seems backward  -- but i indeed a question for the SimplePortal support -- not SMF support

In the other page, what's the difference between Home and Portal pages?

A Home page tipically is what you get when enter the site like a front page with information or articles, a Portal is kind of the same as it's the front page of the forum with articles and publications, so I don't understand why any page needs both, but you can have them if you have the forum in a subdirectory and have a homepage different from the forum and have a portal in the forum itself.

This is more of a personal interest response, but I had a couple issues with simple portal with my theme, "Flatline". The right column would extend out past the layout of the forum on resize, the chat had problems, and placement of blocks was a problem. I tried living with it but gave up and changed to tinyportal. No problems at all with it, and works perfect with my theme.

that is not actually helpful to the question posed by the OP.
As you can see, he has no layout issues... his question is solely regarding the menu items

I believe that this may be more of a "how to add additional menu items" or "how to change menu item names".
The second image belongs to CS Club Forums that has a portal installed (portal) and an html site (home) button. Thats as much as I can offer as I am still quite green at SMF and have yet to run thru the manual.

Then it is what I said at the end, it's a Home page and the forum is in a subdirectory with a Portal installed.

It needs to do that, add another menu item that will be the "Home", and rename the current "Home" to "Portal".

yes... we know.  The menu is not done in the themes templates, it is done in Subs.php

but you  still have not been clear WHAT *EXACTLY* you are acually trying to do.

saying "make it like this" is useless

Good point. The entire purpose of the portal is to create an index outside of the forum.
