Is there a chance that someone might want to tackle the word-limit mod again to make it compatible with the current releases?

Looking for a mod that would establish something like a 15,000-word limit or no limit at all.

A lack of a license in the original mod packaging is treated as no license to do anything with the package by the SMF team, so it's unlikely the SMF team would allow the revised mod to be uploaded to this forum.

UPDATE:  Just tried installing that mod on SMF 2.0.15.  Installed without problem, even without version emulation....

If you are just looking to make it so posts on your forum have no word limits, this is a built in feature that you don't need a mod for

Go to:  Admin » Posts and Topics » Post Settings

Look for "Maximum allowed post size"

Then either put in a specific number in the box if you want a character limitation (say 20000 for example) or just type in 0 if you want no character limit per post

^  but is a character limitation the same as the requested word limitation ...?

I would say that it is an inaccurate statement.  Words in most languages are seperated by spaces, and the mod in question counts the number of WORDS, not characters per post.

Considering that roughly 99.9999% words in most languages consist of more than one character, then I would submit the answer is no to that question.

I am aware of the difference between a word and a character ;)

My guess from reading the OP's post is that he is looking for the ability to allow members to be able to write posts with no limitations. Adding a 0 in that box would allow this to happen without use of a mod, wouldn't it?

Not entirely, no, as it happens.

You'd want to put a big number into that box first - say, 70000 characters - and then put it to 0 which would give you enough room to store 15,000 words in a post.

Though, frankly, 15,000 words in a post is borderline unmanageable and outright user-hostile, but that's another story.
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.
