Joomla Seperate Area?

I have spent several hours reading all sorts of web sites, news pages, this site, etc...trying to decide what I am going to do.  I have decided, that I am moving my finally nicely working Mambo with SMF site to Joomla.  While I know the core is the same, it seems to me that with both of the newest releases (including 4.5.3 final), they are starting to move away from each other.  This being the case, I can foresee very soon 2 totally seperate bridges being required.  Wouldn't now be a good time to go ahead and make a new forum area here for Joomla?  This way, people with specific questions can ask there and they won't get lost in the mass of Mambo posts here.

Just a thought, as I read here trying to figure out how I am going to make the switch, and if even I can.  I have read several places here with information, and must say, I am not entirely sure what I will have to do to make this work with what I have.  Currently using the newest RC version of SMF and will be installing the newest release of Joomla later tonight.

If anyone can point me to exactly what I will need to do once I have Joomla installed and working to integrate SMF into it like it is now with Mambo, I would be greatly appreciative.  As I said, I see some instructions, but then there are too many - but if you have this you need to do this, of course, if you have this instead, then don't do that, except for line 3 but then do this, but take out line 8...blah blah blah..  heheheh   (I know an exageration, but that is what my brain registers...)

Thanks!  and I look forward to my new system working with SMF as always.

no reason to separate out the boards until the weight of posts requires it...   too much "granularity" makes things MORE confusing, not less.

As for what you have to do... the combined readme post that is stickied at the top of this board has the only changes currently required to get the bridge working with Joomla.   2 code changes in MOS-SMF.php to handle the new session information...  that's it.

As always, thank you Kindred, and thanks for the quick reply..  I will follow the instructions there to the letter.  One question, since I have it all installed already, do I ONLY need to make those 2 changes after I convert to Joomla, or do I need to uninstall the bridge, install Joomla, then reinstall the bridge with the changes?
