Possibe to Follow / Subscribe to a Member

Is there a mod or feature to subscribe / follow a member so a user gets an eMail notification when this member post a new topic or replies in a topic?

Not in the default software, and I don't believe any mod exists.

I'd be interested in getting such a mod done ... maybe envoling the buddy feature so that people could have the option to receive notifications about new content from people they are friends with.

should be fairly easy to do for 2.1, though imho it's better not to use the buddies for it and just have a separate follow option.
