Just some things I miss, finding RC4 here this morning.

Hi!  I was surprised to see the new look of SMF when I logged in this morning.  It looks really great!  I just miss a couple of things:  being able to mark topics as "read" without having to answer "are you sure" every time.  (I edited my RC3 to stop that.)  Also, I have to manually set "forever" when I log in.  But, aside from the shock of seeing this site look so different after all these years...  2.1 RC4 is very nice-looking, isn't it?  It's a very attractive template.  :)

An alphabetically shorten list of languages to choose from would also be an improvement...

If this is SMF 2.1 feed back, we have a Bug Reports board.

Should be better now.

Oh, is it a bug?  I just thought it was how things are with this version.   :)   Overall, I quite like it.

^ This, default should be forever.  Should also be login fields for guests, why do we have to click on 'Login' every time to login? >:(

IIRC there was a bug report on GitHub about setting the default to Forever.
And agree about visible login fields. I think that hack of yours, for restoring them from 2.0.x, is going to be very popular.

From a security pov, I think the one hour default is better; in case you login on a public or someone else's device and forget to logout. :)

Plus, I mean... you only have to manually select "Forever" once per device, right? If you're constantly reminded/bothered by this default, then you're logging out/back in a lot in which case it defaulting to "forever" apparently doesn't even yield any noticeable result for you. :P

It yields a noticeable result because you don't automatically get booted after one hour, and can log out when it suits you.

I agree with Liroy. Yes, if it bugs you then you will login forever.

I guess the 1 hour may be a bit aggressive and is the opposite extreme. (We'll make it one minute, muhahaha!) Perhaps 1 day as default is more reasonable. I feel forever being the default really isn't the best idea though, despite "everyone else" pretty much doing that.

Ok, so we have you and Liroy against three others so far. Grab your popcorn.

ETA: And the old "Go up" and "Go Down" buttons still work the same way they did in 2.0.x, and do not actually take you up enough or down enough to be truly useful. "Go up" takes you to just shy of the "Unread posts" link. Meh. :P

And some bright spark has cleverly set line-height in posts to be more scrunched than anywhere else. IOW, the one place the extra line height would really be useful to counteract "ZOMFG wall of text!" is the one place it is scrunched a bit. Genius. :P

I can see I'm going to have as much fun with 2.1 as I did with 2.0 and 1.1. :D

This, of course, is the minority case, most people use their own devices, and you're inconveniencing the vast majority of members by trying to protect a few idiots from their own stupidity.  If browser clears history on exit (a very basic security precaution) you have to login every time it reloads.  It's a nuisance to have to click 'Login' to get a login window, then select 'Forever' to prevent being logged out in an hour.

Just kidding of course, we value all feedback and are absolutely looking in to everything reported/suggested. :)

We can all forget something from time to time. But as I said, perhaps raising the default to 1 day solves this problem and is more reasonable of a default? :)

Tha would be a reasonable compromise. Anyone who stays logged in for more than 24 hours in one hit has serious issues. :D

ETA: Man you would not believe the number of obvious and sensible markup revisions I'm spotting already. :D

It's supposed to be in the topic/discussion context so makes sense it only goes up until the first post.
We have "Go Up" in the footer tho  ;D
