Search order not changing when selected

When I search by  "show results as messages", selecting a search order would not affect the actual order like when I use the standard search. What I see, though in some instances, is the reload arrow/ cancel cross icon flickering between each other, changing from arrow to cross and back for a quick moment (Firefox, latest update).

I'm seeing the same issue (with SMF 2.1.4). The browser's console shows this error message when trying to change the order of the search results with "Show results as messages" enabled:

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'submit')
    at HTMLSelectElement.onchange (index.php?action=search2:144:133)

I've also noticed that the "Most relevant" search order sorting is different depending on whether "Show results as messages" is enabled or disabled. It seems like the "Show results as messages" option is currently a bit buggy?
