PM function settings and maintenance

I have looked everywhere but cannot see settings for the PM function. For example, can I limit the number of messages that a member leaves in their Inbox? Or is there a maintenance function somewhere that I can delete or archive PMs that are older than a certain threshold, e.g., 30, 90, 180, 365 days?

Finally, we have just completed an action to make many of our users 'Read Only', i.e. like Guests, but that seems to prevent them from reading the PMs. Is there a way to allow that in the group permissions (currently inherited from Guests)?

Not if you use inherited from..

There is a max pm limit, but it's global,  not per group

Actually, I think it's the other way around. The inbox size limit is per group, and you can set it by editing the membergroup.
The limit for number of personal messages a user may send in an hour is global, and set through the Anti-Spam settings.

hmmmm....  ok, yes, you are correct.
Max personal messages is set per group

however, permissions-wise, I believe that I am correct...     you can not set specific permissions if the group is "inherited from" -- you need to change the group to be unique permissions and set the permissions for that group.
(since Guests can not view PMs, that means, inherited from Guests won't have that permission either.)
