Hi all,

I have noticed that certain posts, by certain members, require a 'Reason' to be supplied to allow/complete an Edit of the Post ??

Perhaps I am 'Not seeing the Forest, for the Trees', but where / how is this scenario enabled and controlled ??

Is it something the individual member enables ??

I have had one member occasionally experiencing difficulties getting his modified post to 'appear', he keeps getting a blank page ??

I have also occasionally noticed some much older posts require an email to be sent to allow editing ???
Are those functions 'hang-overs' from a far older SMF Version ?? ... as I have not found those selectable functions 'leaping out' at me in the Admin section unless it is in some way related to individual permissions etc

Any help, appreciated,
cheers,
Stewart

It's only controlled by the courtesy edit time as far as I know, after that time editing will ask for a reason for all posts by everyone.

Blank pages usually indicate something going wrong on the server.

I have no idea what you mean with email in regards to editing posts. Once you are logged in, you can usually do what ever your user permissions allow you to do with no further requirements.

ok,....

OK.

The Email thing must be a 'hang-over' from ages ago with older versions of the software, as it seems to Only be quite Old posts, I have scene this behaviour on.

My current Post settings:

You cannot view this attachment.

Post showing Both Reason for Edit and Email requirement:

You cannot view this attachment.

Please note, that is a very old post.
Nothing recently seems to require Any email addresses to be supplied, so was just wondering how/ what caused it.

NB: the issue of the blank page is by a user based in Brazil and out VPS is in Sydney, so could perhaps be a timing issue ??

Can I 'Dispense' with that Setting that requires a reason ??

There, I'm guessing you are modifying a guest post, so you have the options to edit all the guest data as well.

And note that asking for something isn't the same as requiring it.

;)  :)  ... Understood, although with the email section, I have HAD to supply some form of email to continue.

Yes, ... NOW a Guest, was an old original member who left.
TBH, I had not previously noticed the email requirement, was for Guests only ....

So, a User,... editing their Own post, should NOT Need to provide a Reason ??

Strange how ones brain can so easily 'filter out' seemingly unnecessary information,..  ;D  :P  ;)

All guest posts should have an email address associated with them, so requiring it if one doesn't exist makes sense to me.

I'm not actually 100% sure, as I haven't tested and I'm usually logged in as admin everywhere I post, but I've always assumed edit reason is completely optional.

No, neither have I,.. (will have to check)  :)

Same here, ....

Quoteedit reason is completely optional
Well, it certainly seems to be as an Admin'  ;)

Thanks, am waiting on my user to get back to me.
Will post, again if there is an ongoing issue.

Sesquipedalian

An edit reason is always optional.

An email address is always required for each post. But for registered members the email address is already known, so the input field to enter the email address only shows up for guests.
I promise you nothing.

Sesqu... Sesqui... what?

Thanks for the Info' and details  :)

There are some slight issues with English with my user (being from Brazil), so I have asked for further details / Screen grabs etc but it sounds like this 'situation / issue', is happening a Lot, if not All the time for him.

His communication, so far:
QuoteI found some minor errors on the board. When i try to edit a message, it doesn´t allow to. Even if i answer the reasons of the edit (For me, in general is grammar errors or minor updates), the screen keeps stuck on "loading" after i press save.

Quoteany post i try to edit, the topic keeps loading and loading and....

Even Logged-In as a normal user, I have Not been able to replicate this behaviour, although ... that said, I HAVE noticed an 'occasional' issue loading an Edited post (after Saving) and am (at this point in time) not 100% sure what or how I deal't with it.

Interestingly, that was with the old server, (we have only within the last month changed 'Hosts'), yet this issue would appear to have been affecting my user for some time AND on this New server.

Hopefully, further 'clarifying' details to follow.

Quick Update: The user has tried Not filling in the 'Reason for editing' dialogue ... and all seems to be OK.
He will keep me informed  :)

Steve

Marking solved then. If you have further issues regarding your questions in this post, by all means, mark it unsolved.
