URL parsing broken

I have no idea what can cause this. Especially since this also occurs on some portal blocks, and not on others.
Is there an "easy" way to debug whatever is causing this re-writing of the url?

Ok, to make it even weirder. If I add the same code again, the second link does work. But, when I make some changes to the text, both links are broken. I'm leaving the topic "as is" for you guys to see.

And look how the URL tag gets parsed in the news.

So 3 times the exact same input, results in a working url with correct formatting, a broken url with incorrect formatting and a broken url with [url] in the visible text.
