Because that's really where we're at now. The 'I'm just posting from mobile' doesn't excuse what looks to me to be like terminal rudeness.

Lesson picked up from Meat Loaf: if you have to raise your voice in an argument, you already lost. And I see the text equivalent of raised voices in this thread. A charitable interpretation might pretend this is the Anglosphere meme of 'instead of trying to use a foreign language just speak louder and slower until they get it' but that's hardly a winning interpretation either.

The saddest part is that yesterday I had reason to look at 3.0's repo and... I was genuinely impressed with what's gone on. It's just a shame that it's being held back by the community, but as much as people tell me it's changed in the last decade, it really, really, really hasn't. The names have, the exact moods have but the fundamental problems haven't.

This topic demonstrates the problem with treating an enthusiastic fan poorly just because they don't conform to how you think communications should be done. I think that says an awful lot about the state of online discussion, and in particular how the SMF team choose to comport themselves. Small wonder that MyBB long since overtook SMF in adoption despite not having actually figured out a mobile theme in core yet, because who'd actually come here for support?

I, unfortunately, ran into that recently as well. I started a message on the boards here but decided to privately message a couple of the team members regarding the current status of the project seeing as it's basically floundering pretty hardcore. One of them didn't bother replying and the second one replied but after I offered up some suggestions they didn't reply either.

That is pretty accurate. Outside of a couple people that show up online and reply to posts where is everyone else? What is everyone doing?

Whatever I guess...if someone like Arantor wants to get involved again he should be added back on, never mind this ridiculous gatekeeping.
