User groups in Users Online

By default, I have three groups which shows. Two admin based groups and a global moderator group.

Two questions:

How does SMF achieve showing all these user groups?

Is there a setting or permission I am overlooking to grant a user group the same ability to be seen in the list?

Both question might result in the same answer, I suppose it depends on if SMF have edited anything and I think it's safe to ask the question just in case of that.

Note: I have tried searching, and I spent a good length of time looking. It is possible that I have missed this being asked, perhaps by failing to use the right wording but I tried various ways.

only those groups that are primary groups will show, are the groups you want to show primary or secondary?

[chrisB]

Sorry, @Illori. I am unsure, but I assume the moderator group is secondary.

Is there a way to change this? Without it being a big issue, I am only semi familiar with SMF (enough to get by).

Admin -> Members -> Membergroups -> Edit Membergroups

Modify the group you want to add to the group key, find the "Visibility" setting, and set the group visible.
You can also use the "Color in online list" option to specify the color.

How you can help SMF

[chrisB]

Thank you, I don't see the option to do this for the group. It could be due to migrating my data originally from Invision.

The moderator group is special it will not show up in the key.

moderators are ONLY moderators when they are INSIDE the board that they moderate... that's why it will never show up on the board index

Is it possible to make a usergroup bold? I take for granted that you can with most forums, but I can't suss it out with SMF. I don't see a class for the group, so I am not sure CSS is viable and I don't see any type of styling mod.

Which leaves perhaps a manual edit? I don't, worth asking. 😊

Thanks again for the help.

What do you mean by "make a usergroup bold"

Do you mean in the display of the name in various places?

AFAIK, putting html into the group name is a *BAD* idea that can break your whole group interface

So, you have to look at where it is DISPLAYED and adjust the output rather than the input.

Where do you want it bold (and why do you think it should be?)

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I would like to make my main admin group (senior admin) bold. So, the usernames within that group are all bolded throughout my site.

It sounds like this would cause trouble.

With Invision, I used to add <span style="color: #dab800;"><strong></strong></span>

If this isn't possible, that's okay. Thanks, again.

no.  I believe that will break things....
You might be able to do it with CSS.

@Diego Andrés do you happen to know if it's possible with CSS? It's something I tried, but I wasn't sure there was any classes for the user groups.

Thank you, @Kindred.
