Strange?

I've just downloaded a copy of smf 1.1rc2 in zip format and when I enter the zip archive and a new file is inside smf_1-1-rc2_install without any extension, I renamed to .gz and it worked, but maybe you would like to know, maybe some folks don't figure that out.

So you're saying there was a .gz inside a .zip?   And the actual contents were inside the .gz?

Yes. And I've also downloaded that file twice , so I can be sure of that.

Just tried the ones that didn't work for you.
They do work for me.
Am also using Opera 9 and winrar 3.50

I've tried again download the files with opera 9, latest version of FireFox and IE 6 and strange things happen...

Opera 9 - downloads but gives error at finish, but still saves file and extracting contents of zip file works, with the same problem I've encountered before on IE 6. (a new .gz file without extension inside).

IE 6 - same thing, but no error.

FireFox - downloads ok, and strangely when I extract the contents of the archive it's ok, no more .gz file. ?

P.S.: I even tried a new archive extractor, not that this matters but for testing.

Question to Remaker, what is your firewall please? (maybe problems between server and firewalls?)

Really lots of users i known experiment this problem...

They test with ie, firefox and opera, and with activation and desactivation of firewalls...
Certains are ok with ie and firewall desactivated only, and not other..

Really strange all this....
IP problem maybe?

I don't know for now...

I don't think this comes from the client side(my side). It's something from the server, obviously.
If something on my side was wrong than , wouldn't that cause problems on all downloads? Not just this one.. . and also, this is quite strange, it's like a coding mistake or something because it's quite illogical what's happening.

i ahev downloaded SMF 1.1 RC2 a couple of times from this website and it worked fine but today i needed another copy but after two times i get the same error when i unzip it on my machine.

I am also experiencing the problem downloading the 1.07 forum .zip file, each time it says that the archive is corrupted.

Browsers Tried: MSN 9.0, Yahoo Browser (both use IE 6 core) and IE 6 directly.
OS Windows XP Home, using default XP zip extractor.

The same happens for SMF 1.1RC2 zip downloads.

Both happens regardless of where I save it.

I hope this helps in locking down the problem.

I am also having the same problems with the downloads.

Downloading the .zip files
Two different machines, different networks
Both running WinXP Pro and IE6

Used WinZip, WinRar and the one built into XP

The problems are all the same, archive files are corrupt.

Okay, I ran a test getting "smf_1-0-7_install.zip"from the site.

  • Wget 1.10.1: OK
  • cURL 7.15.4: OK
  • FireFox 1.5.0.6:OK
  • Opera 9.00: OK
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 SP2 (Windows XP Pro): BAD

The IE downoad stops short of full size by 118,057 bytes.

Looking at the raw file, the IE download has some garbage (11 bytes) at the beginning before the magic (PK) sequence and it cuts off short before the end.

For others experiencing this issue, lets see if we can narrow down some stuff. Here are the md5sums for both the good and bad version of this file. If you get a bad version, see if your md5sum matches mine. If it does, at least there is some consistency that can be looked into:

Good copy (1152649 bytes):
e2bac43ca536169d027a08143d57e3f7 *smf_1-0-7_install-ff.zip

Bad copy (1034592 bytes):
b280236bc61c81d8f917731f0fca568f *smf_1-0-7_install-ie.zip

I believe I fixed this today - sorry for the delay.

Out of curiosity, what was going on? Might help those of us that run into the same problem on our own sites.

Well - at first I thought it was gz-compress so disabled that and it fixed the zips - then that seemed to break the tar.gz for some unknown reason. What I actually ended up doing was removing the code which sent zip files as application/zip and instead just send it as a octlet stream like the rest.
