Whilst I'd agree that there are bugs in SMF 2.0 beta 1, I have to stress that there aren't many bugs - especially in you know what you are doing.

I run SMF 2.0 on my largest 'live' site and it's going really well. I'm not showing off, although all these posts make it seem like SMF 2.0 is a pretty faulty piece of software - I personally feel it's pretty awesome :P

Great work for the SMF team. Hope those mod writers will update their mods to the latest 2.0 soon. :)

For me, I will wait patiently. My forum ain't broke now...so I don't want to mess with it. :P

How did you remove the 'Simple Machines forum' banner that is by default in the right up side of the forums?

Actually Using SMF Beta As for live site is not a genius thing specially if it is huge. One word explains it all and that is "Beta 1" Its not even a "Release Candidate" it is "Beta 1" A simple Beta 1. Expect a lot of bugs as it is the first beta.

Pah, where is the fun in that, I'm planning on upgrading within the next couple of weeks, only reason I haven't done so yet is lack of time.

Agreed. Most of the bugs found are cosmetic things or small errors. For a first beta, it is quite good. Do keep in mind that we've been running the development edition on this site for some time in order to make the system as stable as we can. Of course, given the variety of bugs that have been found, it would have been chaotic if this was a general release.

Oh, it is. The updates to it are going to really help forum admins and mod authors a lot. However, some people feel the need to have 50 mods installed on their forum, and this wouldn't work well for them. You are technically-minded, so that helps you when running your forums. Unfortunately, not everyone is that way.

Something like that

I have a question about the new version, specifically the mail queues. Do the mail queues have rate limiting? My host allows me a maximum of 500 emails per hour with PHP. With 1.1, I cannot do forum announcements, because this limit is exceeded almost immediately with my 18,000+ members. Also, with the mail queues, are the emails prioritized, such that PM notifications would take priority over bulk forum announcements? Thanks!

Thantos

I wlll just have to wait a little while longer until I can get a charter membership but I am itching to try Verion 2.0, even if it IS in beta. :)

Thanks to all that made this possible. From my limited understanding of php I am sure that this task must have consumed SO many hours and of course, the people that did it are enthusists not paid personel. I will be joining the ranks soon :)

When i tried to install the smf 1.1.3 through Fantastico i had a problem with the greek characters. The posts that contained greek characters were showing [?????] symbols instead of the characters. Finally i solved the problem by installing the forum maually. I'm afraid if there is any possibilitity when i will upgrade my forum to smf 2.0 to face the same problems.

QuoteNyah Can you update some other themes? :P
I have about 12 on my list if you dont mind :P :P
Upgrading themes takes a lot of work, so no, I can't :P

To upgrade a theme, what I did was:

  • Upgrade my SMF 1.1 installation (with the old theme installed) to SMF 2.0. The upgrader *tries* to update the theme, but does not update it completely.
  • Use a diff tool (Meld on Linux, or WinMerge on Windows) to compare the files in the SMF 1.1 default theme with the SMF 2.0 default theme.
  • Apply all the changes that the upgrader did not.
  • Copy missing images to the images directory.

This took me a while, but when I did this, the upgrader was not as good as it is now. I believe the upgrader now updates most stuff in the theme, and only minor fixes are needed. :)

I've been running the SMF 2.0 Alpha for a while, and often have to fix things manually. Recently, it decided to make everyone's post counts unusually high for some strange reason :P.
I'm currently running a SMF 2.0 Alpha version from July... I'll be updating to SMF 2.0 Beta 1 soon :)

Mick.

Is this compatible with TP 9.8?   Or.....does 2.0 have its own front page?

Is this installed thru webinstall.php or pacakage manager?
