QuoteTemporary tables are no longer *required*.
What does this mean?

Grudge

Temporary tables are required for Search to work efficiently

As for my mods, check out my reply here:

hey, hey.................

I would not be so quick to put-down phpbb v2.2. I'm fairly "on top of" the daily progress of the coding over there, and let me tell you........................they have one heck of a bulliten board up their sleave.

But, now that I'm an SMF convert, that really does not matter, now does it. ;)

Philosophy aims at the logical clarification of thoughts. Philosophy is not a body of
doctrine but an activity. A philosophical work consists essentially of elucidations.
Philosophy does not result in 'philosophical propositions', but rather in the clarification of
propositions. Without philosophy thoughts are, as it were, cloudy and indistinct: its task is to make them clear and to give them sharp boundaries.

Indeed. Personally I support any free BB out there, and certainly have nothing but praise for any team who give their time and effort to the public for free. That said it doesn't mean I don't strive to make SMF the best of the bunch ;)

Who said I was putting it down? I used phpBB2 for the last 2-3 years (until I migrated to SMF) and was following the progress of v2.2, including putting a few CVS versions up to try out. I'm sure it will be a great product, but I was left with the feeling that what is just a point upgrade (2.0 -> 2.2) was becoming as big (and as long) a job as painting the Cistine Chapel.

The other reason I chose SMF over phpBB is the enlightened view of the SMF devs who believe that integration, e.g. with CMS/portals, is a goal worth assisting. The phpBB devs have never seemed interested in integration...unless it was integration with a portal that they were eventually going to write.

And now they're not *required* anymore. Hopefully this doesn't mean permanent tables will be used for Search, since it eats space and it's the primary reason I converted from phpBB2 to SMF.

It means that no results archive thingy will be created so that for repeat searches, it does the same over again.

What Ben said. They are not *required*, but if your server can do them then it will use them. It was fixed as people on poorly configured servers were having trouble.

Other? I think there are like four.... three I can think of right now, and I swear there was another.

Wow... Didn't know that... We should discuss this more in the team area just so everyone knows what the status is.

You won't be able to reinstall the mods until they are updated and marked compatible with RC2.
