Hi, I'm trying to add the 'Ad Management' mod and I'm trying to follow simple machines 'Mod Adding' guide but it's extremely confusing and don't get it at all.

What am I supposed to do?

Shadow.

What did the package manager say? Did you try it?

What guide are you talking about? Can you please link us to it?

You can add mods using the package manager.
Package Manager

You might also need to manually install mods to your custom theme, that is if your using one.

This is the mod I'm talking about:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=255

Also, those two guides you linked me to are the guides that are EXTREMELY confusing.

Kill Em All

Are you using a custom theme and are you running 2.0 RC2?

To add the mod go to Admin>Packages>Download Packages>Package to Upload:>Browse>Find your package>Upload>Apply Mod>Install

MAKE SURE THERE ARE NOT TESTS FAILED!

If you are using a custom theme, you will have to manually edit the code in your theme for the mod to work.
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=parse;mod=255;attach=132156;smf_version=2.0_RC2

The custom edits you will have to make can be found under:
./Themes/default/index.template.php
and
./Themes/default/BoardIndex.template.php
and
./Themes/default/Display.template.php
and
./Themes/default/MessageIndex.template.php

the file path default should be replaced with your custom theme. If your custom theme does not have one of those files, don't worry about it, then the file in the default theme will be used.

This is what I'm using:

- 2.0 RC2
- A custom theme (RGBB Curve)

I followed your guide, and I browsed for the file (in ZIP format) and it said the installation was successful.

Then when I click on [Install Mod] it gives me this error:

QuoteAn Error Has Occurred!
You cannot download or install new packages because the Packages directory or one of the files in it are not writable!

What am I doing wrong?

What is your packages directory CHMOD to?

Edit: it should be 755

It was 777 because the installation told me to change it to that. I just changed it to 755. Now, I'll test it.

I changed it to 755 and it still gives me that same error.

ShadowBarrage

Okay, I fixed the first problem by doing this:

QuoteOpen your FTP or Cpanel, Find the folder called "Packages"  Change the permissions on that folder to 755 or 777 ( depends on your hosts server settings )
When you have changed the permissions, open the folder Packages, and inside it, create a new folder and name it "temp" and set the permissions to that folder the same as you did on the packages folder.

But, now, I've installed the Ad Management Mod:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=255

and it says once installed, the option is under configuration but I can't find it there or anywhere else! What's wrong now?

If you're having a problem with a Mod, it's usually best to ask in the Mod's support topic, since they know more about the mod than we do.

But, first, to make sure it's not a problem with your Package Manager/file permissions, try installing another Mod to see if it works.

I've tried to install your advanced reputation system and that doesn't work either.

Do they show in the default theme?
If they do you need to edit your custom theme.

ShadowBarrage

Even the default theme doesn't have it. :(

Kill Em All

In your packages directory, do you have a directory called "temp" without quotes? It should be CHMOD to 755.

ShadowBarrage

I've tried both 777 and 755 and both don't work.

Kill Em All

It is best for the packages directory and temp sub folder to be CHMOD to 755.

Ask your host if they have mod_security enabled and if so ask if they can disable it.
