Hi,

I am using new site based on latest version of SMF. On my site any new user can post new topic. Which i would like to stop it.

I try to find the option to set approval for new post from new user. But can not find it.

Could you please help to guide how to set permission for new user, so that if user post new topic, it will be halted till admin approve it?

Also, any setting for newbie so after 10 post, user no need to go through approval.

I am using SMF .version 2.0.8.

Regards,
Parag

Hi Try below things referring from post http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=453907.0

Steps:

1. Create a new group called "Super Newbie" and set its post requirements to 5. You can set to 0 or any number.

2.Enable post moderation:
Go to Admin -> Configuration -> Core Features
Click the "Switch" button next to "Post Moderation" (so it appears to be "on"), then click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.

3. Enable the option to assign permissions to post groups:
Admin -> Members -> Permissions -> Settings
Check the box next to "Enable permissions for post count based groups".

4. Finally, go to the "Post Moderation" section of the Permissions area and set things up appropriately:

I set "Regular Members" - select the right button ("Cannot create") in each section. This prevents the permissions for this group from overriding those for the post groups.
"Super Newbie" - select the middle button ("Can create but requires approval") in each section.
All other post groups - select the left button ("Can create") in each section
Other groups (Global Moderator, etc.) - set to your liking.

Check the attached file for reference to see how "Post Moderation" look like.

A possibly easier way...

Put all new members in a group, until they have, say, ten posts. Limit that group, so that it's members can only post in one board, even if they can read other boards.

Until they make ten posts, they'll be restricted from posting, in the other boards. But, of course, there's nothing to stop you moving a new member to a different group, before they've made ten posts, if you want to.

Reading that back, I could've worded that better. I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying. :)

Thanks ....Noted....I will look into it...once my forum has some users.....

K@... how is that "easier"? ???   that requires a manual effort to move every user into and out of that restricted group.

post-count-based groups are simple, stright forward and -- quite honestly, do exactly what has been requested, by design

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

Other than the hassle of actually configuring it in the first place, which is so counter intuitive it isn't funny.

Moving people into an approved group is actually easier to grasp as a concept and is actually more intuitive.

They'll just spam the board they are allowed to post in. :p

Better than spamming the whole forum, though. ;)

They'll spam until they have the required posts to see all of the boards, then they will spam all of the boards. ;)

kat

That's why you keep an eye on the boards that they can see. :P

Too many restrictions will make members leave or not register in the first place. :p

Steve

Agreed. If I join a board and my posts have to be approved for any length of time, I won't be back. I want to feel welcomed. :)
