Well, i'm kinda waiting for rc3 to come out. I'd hate to update themes every time a new rc version comes out.

What I mean is,... I haven't looked much at rc2 theme template lately. Just once took a peek and made my old theme to work with 2.1 https://www.idesignsmf.com/dev-site2/index.php With the ongoing updates, I don't want to make themes for 2.1 just yet simply because of not knowing whats been changed, if any. There's always something.  That's why I stopped making mods that depend on external calls. Like my old Facebook Like mod back in the day; lol Facebook changed their API every other month. I had to update the mod. Sigh...no more lol

Hi Mick.

I like the theme very much, thanks for your work - this is brilliant!
However, I have a little issue to report - tried even to debug it myself, however it seems my CSS skills are outdated  :-[ - do not have not so much understanding how the responsive stuff works.

Issue is the following:
When I open the forum on my mobile (or for testing, reduce the width of the browser window on the desktop) at some point - suddenly the table widths of the list of topics is very very narrow. Even though there is more space on the screen left. Also what it does is the headline of the table is too large still.

Not sure where this problem comes from - hope this can be solved easily?

Thanks and best regards from Germany!

Antechinus

That will be due to the responsive CSS dropping table cells (td) before it drops table column headers (th). Should be an easy fix. It'll just be a matter of tweaking break points for the headers.

This is because Jane theme assumes you have Responsive Curve mod installed as well, which does some changes to default/Curve theme - do you have that mod installed? I had same issue.

Mick.

Not sure whats going on,...the theme already has the responsive.css

I cant replicate the issue  https://www.idesignsmf.com/demo/index.php?theme=13

barnaby jonez

You can't replicate issue because your test site probably has Responsive Curve mod installed does it not?

Responsive Curve mod adds classes (.hidden) to specific th elements on template file (MessageIndex.template.php), which responsive.css uses to hide at certain viewports

If you dont have the responsive mod installed, your template will not have those changes, and so the CSS will not hide them on mobile causing that issue

It is a simple enough fix if you want to manually add those classes yourself to the template file

Thanks, Jonez. Will give it a try!

Question about the approach:
Do I have to un-install Jane, then install the "responsive" mod and then re-install Jane - or just add the responsive mod on top?

Mick.

You don't need the mod. The responsive.css is already on the theme. Could be something else is happening

Sigh... Yes...you need the responsive mod. I'll update the theme as soon as I can.

Mick.

Reasons why you need the responsive mod....

It modifies about 3-4 files in default theme that Jane theme does not have. That's why my themes are lightweight. I don't include such files since they're already being pulled from default theme.

barnaby jonez

Mick,

Not your fault man. I think the theme is pretty clean and I appreciate it "uses" default/Curve theme rather than try to do its own thing.

Testing this theme. One question. why and what does 'jane' load via cloudflare???
Curve loads nothing despite being on the same server.

Im not following the question. This theme has nothing to do with cloudfare.

Thanks for answering. This is confusing. I have the 'True Sight' addon installed in Firefox. It shows two CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) involved when loading a Jane webpage.
The forums with Curve and Jane are both installed in sub-directories on the same server. The only difference apart from the theme is that the former is running in English, while I'm testing the latter with traditional Chinese (UTF-8). Everything seems to work perfectly, but it is bugging me that each time when Jane loads the the True Sight addon shows CDNs from two servers.
True Sight says: External resources were served by a CDN.
One is cdnjs.cloudflare.com, the other seems to be font related - it disappears if I test with English only.
Cloudflare appears every time, even if the language is switched to English. But no CDN is detected if the theme is switched to curve. Doesn't that mean it is related to the theme itself, somehow?

How can that be?

Peter
