The update was flawless, thank you.

Upgrade seems to be working except I am getting the message "Constant WIRELESS already defined in /var/www/html/smf/index.php on line 78" - any idea on how to fix this?

Hi I recently started a new board with 1.07 and did the update to 1.08.None of my gifs or smilelies are showing. All I have are red x's.Does anybody have any ideas as to how i can fix this?

How did you do the update? Which theme are you using?

I tried to upgrade using the Package Manager and I got the following error:
Quote2: file_exists() [<a href='function.file-exists'>function.file-exists</a>]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/package-info.xml) is not within the allowed path(s): (/sites1/
File: /sites1/
Line: 299

Can someone kindly help me to slove this?

Just to say I've just successfully upgraded my 1.0.7 to 1.0.8. I followed jcroot's step by step instructions - this being my first upgrade with SMF I was being ultra careful and paranoid, and I really appreciated having a step by step idiot's guide - thanks!

I moved to SMF mainly because of upgrade issues with phpBB, and though I've no mods installed on my board I did do a custom theme based on the default theme. I'd kept a list of which files had changes in my theme, but I'd not noted precisely what the changes were - I've done that this time as I've done the upgrade.

My two tips would be when you make any changes to a theme to keep a note of both which files you've made changes in, and the line numbers and what the changes were for (saves much head scratching a couple of months down the line), and to use WinMerge that opally suggested if you're manually editing files during upgrades - it really does make it a lot easier to find the changes between the files and help prevent you missing any - I wish I'd known about it when I was doing all the tedious and terrifying phpBB upgrades - well actually, I just wish I'd discovered SMF far earlier - would have saved me no end of bother!  ;)

My forum got hacked twice, both times my site sent info to a step57 site as well as others, and installed a trojan.  Is this a result of the vulnerability in the last verson?

I'm new at this, and not having much success upgrading.  When I go to the Package Manager, I am told
"A security issue has been identified in SMF 1.0.6. You can install this patch (click here to install) to easily update yourself to the latest version."
So I click, and the next page states:
"Installing this package will perform the following actions:"

But I always get this error:

      Type                     Action                             Description
1.   Execute Modification   ./Sources/QueryString.php Failure

How can I solve this Failure error?  Any help is appreciated.

I get the same problem. Is there any other link I could use to directly update from 1.0.6 to 1.0.8? Or at least a way to update from 1.0.6 to 1.0.7 so then we can activate it with the given link?

Similar issue.
I'm running 3 forums.  One updated flawlessly, the second shows a "failure" for ./changelog.txt.
What does that mean and can I hit "Proceed" ?

If it's a failure for the changelog.txt and nothing else, then yeah, you can go ahead and click proceed.

Can you provide proof of the event please?

Usually you're not hacked, its just a code thats outputted in the template, usually index.template.php :P

I do not need to provide proof, oh ya look at me I would lie about it, lol

and it was index.php that got re wrote, and that is hacked
it took 2secs to fix it, but letting it known that the security flaw is still there

Index.php cannot be editted anyway via SMF, its your account that was hacked. I'm guessing Brute Force(Hackers which have a program which generates random passwords til it gets a match)

Probably your index file was replaced by another account in your server account. Index replacing hacks are about always server problems.

If you think you were hacked because of SMF, please post your access logs here:

Thanks for all boys.-!!! ;)

And Good Look!

I'm using the default theme.I updated using the package manager. Also the images didn't show at all with the original install.

I just wanted to add my appreciation for the updates.

I won't run RC level stuff, so I'm on the 1.0x track.

Thanks again!

Tazman, you can't believe how cool and stable even RC2 is! And we now have RC3 :)

Update was flawless, thanks for all the hard work. :)

Spoke too soon, can't login at all now. :(

Now that was strange, just tried to create a new member, went fine and logged out and can now log in as the admin. :) :D

Good job Team , the install worked for me, real smooth.
