Awfully strange, but if the software can't write to the Packages directory, then something is still going on. Try creating a directory called "temp" inside the packages directory with permissions of 777 and try again.

Nope, still get the error. I closed my ftp program, opened it back up (just in case) and the Packages folder has the 777 permissions, and so does the temp folder I created... I didn't have this issue the last time.

However, I just thought. I had a critical error a couple months ago when I tried upgrading via fantastico and I had to open a ticket with my hosting company to get the backup online. Could that be why? I'd rather not use Fantastico again, so hopefully this will be figured out.
