Here are a couple of screenshots of things I played with earlier today - hopefully they'll give some people some ideas on neat ways to make the SMF themes stretch the limits

New Help Windows

Using jQuery and Thickbox to replace the help pop-ups with Javascript Divs...this gives a very elegant over-lay style effect, and isn't blocked by pop-up blockers.

Topic Visualizations

We can change up the way the message index is displayed, to give more graphical representations of information. The circles on the left use size to depict the number of replies, colour to indicate new/read status, and the transparency to indiate how many replies there were spread over the age of the topic (i.e. a topic with 50 replies in 1 day is much hotter than a topic with 50 replies over a year).

I like that Joseph, though sometimes it is useful to be able to switch easily between the help window and the main window (for example the time format).

Very true - I don't think it's an ideal solution (i.e., I'd probably recommend making it non-modal) but it's a neat proof-of-concept

Seriously, I like the concept & I've always loved the idea of any theme thats' shout style or shout style like ....

To me its just the kewlest idea coupled with the circle thingamajig. If only there were more than 24 hours in a day.... hehe....
