That's why you have to select every membergroup but the one you want to exclude.

Eliana, I'll try and explain what I mean. Your way only works if there are two membergroups - if there are more this happens...

A is a member of MemberGroup1
B is a member of MemberGroup2
C is a member of MemberGroup1 and 2

I want some members to not have access to shoutbox so I set up MemberGroup3 and as you suggest I set the permissions for shoutbox to 'Select All Membergroups' and then choose every group (Membergroup1 and 2) but not the one I don't want to have access (MemberGroup3).

If I add MemberGroup3 to C above he has All Membergroups and can see the shoutbox, But adding MemberGroup3 to A or B will still mean they are missing a membergroup (either MemberGroup1 or 2) so they won't be able to see the shoutbox...

I'd suggest rather than use the negative AllMembergroups the easier way is to have a ShoutboxMemberGroup, set permissions only for this group to see the shoutbox then add this MemberGroup to the profile of everyone you want to be able to access it. Those without this membergroup in their profile won't see it regardless of how many or which other MemberGroups they belong to.

Does that make sense?

Your method works fine on a small forum or when you have a small number of people who need to access a block.

My method works a bit better on large forums (although not when you're changing membergroups a bunch, since it'd be a pain to edit the block each time) when it's easier to single out a small group of members to restrict and let the rest have at it.
Do NOT PM me for support.

I'm loving SimplePortal 2.2.2 and SMF 2.0 RC 1.2  :D

Thanks for the responses, Eliana and Willerby!

Eliana, I thought "All Membergroups" meant that a member would have to belong to all the membergroups that are checked in order to see the shout box. So, I guess I am thinking along the same lines as willerby. Am I not understanding what the "All Membergroups" option means?

I completely get willerby's thinking on this. My forum is small for now, but I think it would be a pretty big pain if it were to get big.

Well, something like the two issues above does not happen without doing anything. You need to provide more details of the error.

I reinstalled the mod after upgrading to 2.0 RC1.2 and that error came up.

Did you get any Test Failed errors during the installation? Can you attach your index.php file here?

The 'Test Failed' errors I edited manually.

The index is attached.

index.php

Code (Replace) Select
require_once($sourcedir . '/SPortal2.php');

Same result.

Can you attach your Subs-SPortal2.php file here then? Or try replacing it with an original file.

Well, you have the function in that file. And that file is being included in every page load. I don't have an idea what might be causing that.

You may want to uninstall the mod completely and install again, as you seem to have some issues with SP copyright too.

That worked.  Thanks!

Spoke to soon!  Here's the latest error I need help on:
QuoteFatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/content/p/a/l/palmbeachpreps/html/Sources/Articles2.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/p/a/l/palmbeachpreps/html/Sources/Admin.php on line 604

[SiNaN]

Error is saying that Articles2.php file doesn't exist in Sources directory. However, SimplePortal doesn't have/use such a file. I believe it is related to SMF Articles mod.

What is the maximum size for a block in the centre?

I recently added a widget called 'Are Ghosts real?' and would like to fill the gaps slightly more.
