So you dont have to edit any files then i am using SMF 1.1.10 i click on Parse button it says i have to edit files this is very confusing

thats because the package manager will do all those edits for you.

try install simpleportal with the package manager,  if you use the default theme, you don't have to edit any file, if you use other theme you just have to edit one file for the "forum" button

gretings!

It gave me a list of files to edit which would be the file that i need to edit so it will work correctly

if you are using the default theme you don't have to click on the parser button at all, just download the SimplePortal_2.3.zip  file, then go to your admin panel in your forum, then package/ download packages/ Upload a Package
Package to Upload:   select the file you just donwload, SimplePortal_2.3.zip, click on upload and thats it! you install simpleportal on your forum.

the file you need to edit if you are using version 1.1.10 and using a custom theme is Themes/ your theme/index.template.php   we could make the edits for you, check: http://simpleportal.net/

if you are using version 2.0, you don't have to edit anything ;)

greetings!

I'm not using the default theme i am using a customed theme why would it give me a list of files to edit thats where i am lost and confused at

What is giving you a list of files to edit? The parser on the mod page or the package manager inside SMF?

magnastik

I've setup up a shoutbox with permissons to all membergroups, but if i go with a user from group beside ADMIN it says "Sorry, this shoutbox does not exist."

What should i do?

Thanks,
magnastik

ɔɔɔɔɔɔuɥoɾ

The shoutbox has 2 sets of permissions to deal with.

The shoutbox itself, and then the block permissions, be sure that both the shoutbox and block permissions are set to allow all the member groups.

Hi, Have just installed SP2.3 on 1.1.10 and it looks great thanks for all your hard work guys.

I have one problem however. On the home page I only see 1 page Pages[1] despite the fact that I have created several pages via the admin - pages option. Just test pages filled with latin stuff but I can't see how to view them from the home page.

They have everyone permission. I can view them via the admin - pages area.

Is there some setting I need to enable so that pages become visible?

Turn the articles off. SP Admin > Configuration > Article Settings and uncheck 'Enable Articles'.

Thanks for the info but that did not fix the problem. When I disable articles I get no Pages[1] at all on the portal page, so it does not seem to fix my problem. Also I don't see the reasoning, surely you should be able to have Web Pages AND Articles in use at the same time? if not then the help or support feature should state this limitation.

Right, I have solved the riddle. The pages 1 2 [3] on the portal page are NOT the pages created by the pages option in the SP configuration, they are pages OF the portal page which increment when the number of ARTICLES reaches the set limit in the General-Articles setting. NOW I understand.

I worked this out by adding 7 articles and I then got my page number on the portal page to increment, having set my Articles per page limit to 3.
Logical really but I wish it had been written down somewhere.

The PAGES created in the SP - Pages configuration are just pages that can be linked to from anywhere on the site via a standard URL link.

I have a little problem understanding how to initiate Standalone Mode.

Currently I am running the portal in "FRONT PAGE" mode. The forum is located in a sub folder of my site. www.fiftyplusforum.co.uk/forum

I have setup an index.html page in the root to redirect to /forum/index.php.

What I want is for visitors to come straight to /forum/portal.php as defined in the help of the SP > Configuration > General Settings.

However If I change to StandAlone mode and place the URL http://www.fiftyplusforum.co.uk/portal.php The home page just remains blank or I get a link error.

Do I have to create the portal.php file and place it in the root of the website or should it automatically be created. As the default for most URLs is index.htm or index.html do I have to configure the website records or some other configuration in order to make the Portal page my site home page?

Regards

Chas.

Here's a good one. I uninstalled 2.3 so I could install 2.3.1 and after the clean no fail uninstall my entire site was transformed into blank/done pages. Every one, even when I manually typed in page url's. Restored my handy backup files and I'm OK, but I'd be interested to learn why this happened. On an uninstall? With no errors?

No emergency, but if one the SP honchos has any ides when they get a minute eventually I'm going to have to resolve this.
Thanks

EDIT: I am a MORON!!!!
I forgot that I had disabled apc_stat on my server which prevents the opcode cache from checking the original copies of the files on the drive against what is in the cache.

All good. My fault. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

LC

Tried to uninstall SP 2.3.1 from my forum (complete uninstall) I received no errors when testing the "uninstall" from the package manager. So I went ahead and did the uninstall through the package manager.

Got this error which seems to have crashed my forum completely.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function sportal_init() in /home/ladychaos/site/forum/index.php on line 198

Any ideas on what I can do? I know I can restore my forum (i'm not worried about that) but I want to know why this has happened?

DragonKith

Why is the newest release of SimplePortal_2.3.1.tar.gz in this format i cant even upload to install it on my board at all.

ɔɔɔɔɔɔuɥoɾ

If your having trouble with that format, even though you should not be, you can extract it on your PC resave it as a zip format, then upload it again.

7-zip extracts most formats :)

where exactly the mod is asking you to edit those files?

yes, the mod edit all those files, but you don't have to do that  the package manager will do all those edits for you

my guest will be that the package manager didn't uninstall sp properly, so, there still some sp code in you files, in your index.php file, search for this:

// Load SimplePortal.
   sportal_init();

and remove it.

greetings!

Well I went ahead and replaced the files with  fresh smf core files, but thank you. If that was the case, how odd it didn't want to remove it.
