Can we add google adsense codes to this and they become active?

Do you mean add to a block?

If so then yes. An html  block would be used.

yeah... really? it works without any problem?

TheListener

Have you tried it?

Obviously I am unable to tell you if the adverts will work however I can suggest you try adding the code to a block.

You can do it in Admin > Simple Portal > Shoutbox, if I'm correct.

I have a stupid question that I can't figure out. Isn't there a way on the portal page to do articles that AREN'T just topics with the first so many words and then a link? Can't you somehow make your own custom articles that are just like a custom BBCode block or HTML that display the same exact way the articles do on the portal page?

Angelina Belle

In SimplePortal 2.3.3, Articles are topic posts. You can control how many characters to show using the article settings, or using the cutoff tag. You could get rid of the links by modifying the articles template. I've done that myself.

Maybe what you want is not an article at all. Maybe you want a BBC or HTML block, like the "Welcome to SimplePortal" block that came with your install. This text is not a msg, and is not stored with all the msgs (posts and topics) on your forum. These blocks are not articles, and would look different on the page.

No, what I want is what TinyPortal used to offer...where you can write your own BBCode or HTML article that has nothing to do with a topic on the forum, but acts just like the layout of the rest of the articles (everything is the same except it's not a topic and you just write what you want in it like a thread, but it's not a thread).

Does that make sense?

Wouldn't this be more suitable?

No, because I use a sidebar anyways. *sigh* I might have to just reinstall Tinyportal again, I really liked this mod too.

Also don't like how you can't arrange the articles shown on the portal page but instead how it goes by the date posted (should go by the date you added them to the portal).

Keep watching SimplePortal as it develops -- I know there are some changes coming to the Articles system.

Hi... I'm not exactly sure what the person above was enquiring about. But, I was wondering myself if you can do articles on Simpleportal that aren't linked to topics... You can do calendar events which aren't linked to topics..

I mean I like how you can have articles linked to topics, but I'd like also for there to be articles that stored separately as articles in the db, not as posts. With comments, and all.

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1354 <-- I took a look at this mod link posted above, its pretty much exactly what I'd like.

Except, I don't want the articles to be on a separate "Articles" page... Is there any way to get the articles from that mod on the portal/home page? (perhaps using a custom block)

Thanks,

Jason

A future version of SimplePortal will do exactly what you want.
For now, every SimplePortal article actually IS a topic post.

One poster did post code for a custom-php "SMF Articles" block. You can find that at SimplePortal.net, by searching for SMF Articles. Then, you can make that custom-php block show up on any page you want.

Another option, of course, for use with the current version of SMF, is to store all the articles away in a single out-of-the-way board (maybe even a child board), and display them on the Portal Page. That's one of the things SimplePortal does best. I think this is the simpler choice.

Either choice is pretty simple.

Tried looking for the block you said.. Couldn't find it. http://simpleportal.net/index.php?topic=7555.msg42265#msg42265

That's the topic I've already posted on simpleportal.net asking for the block you mentioned... No replies so far.

:o

Sheesh

I have only recently started to use the pages and I have used simpleportal since 1.1.8 when I first started in the world of forums.

Angelina Belle

SimplePortal's developers have a lot of demands on their time right now. Because this often limits their availability to develop SimplePortal, this means they cannot plan a schedule each major part of the work to be done.

I'm sorry I cannot give any better information than that.
