This is the official support topic for Yabb converter.  You may use this topic or the Yabb/Yabb SE board to ask for support with this converter.

Note This converter is using a new method of conversion. If you experience any issues at all please let us know.
At this time there may be a bug with membergroups not creating post count based groups on their actual post based group numbers.

Changelog
! Rewrote the Yabb 2.2 converter to use a convert table during conversion instead of altering tables. (yabb22_to_smf.php)

convert.php
Use this convert.php with the .php file attached in this topic.

I am a bit frustrated with trying to find the necessary "yabb22_to_smf.sql" file.

Where can I find this file?

Thank you,
edsager

ThorstenE

the yabb converters use php-files (not .sql), the needed yabb22_to_smf.php is attached in SleePy's Message (above yours)

edsager

TE,

Thank you for the response.

What did SleePy mean with the statement, "Use this convert.php with the .sql file attached in this topic"?  This statement got me looking for a .sql file in the referenced topic.

Thanks,
edsager

ThorstenE

Don't care about, it's only a note for us.. the old yabb converter (before it was rewritten) was an .sql file...

You only need the convert.php and the yabb22_to_smf.php from this topic.

SleePy

My bad, those instances should of been .php. That is what I get for copy and pasting ;)
I fixed them.

the yaBB converter needs a configuration file from your old YaBB:
Paths.pl
the Paths.pl contains the variables for your data dirs..

Quote$boardsdir = "./Boards";
   $sourcedir = "./Sources";
   $memberdir = "./Members";
   $vardir    = "./Variables";

I'll check my YaBB installation later this day, maybe I can post an example paths.pl

pikarl

Hi TE,

thank you for this hint. I just try to convert my YaBB 2.2.1 to SMF, still with many errors. But I do not understand what exactly you mean: Should I copy those vars from Paths.pl [nofollow] into the yabb22_to_smf.php?

Another question: Is it suitable to use the current SMF version 1.1.8 as target for the conversion or should I use an older one?

pikarl

I get the following error message in converting:

Converting personal messages (part 1)... Unsuccessful!
This query:INSERT IGNORE INTO `raumcon`.smf114_pm_recipients
(ID_PM, ID_MEMBER, labels, is_read)

INNER JOIN `raumcon`.smf114_convert AS c ON (c.real_id = pm.ID_PM)
INNER JOIN `raumcon`.smf114_members AS mem ON (mem.memberName = c.temp)
WHERE c.type = 'personal_messages'
AND pm.deletedBySender = 1;Caused the error:
Illegal mix of collations (utf8_general_ci,IMPLICIT) and (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) for operation '='

I am trying to convert YaBB 2.2.1 to SMF 1.1.0 in this case. I got the same message when converting to SMF 1.1.4 or 1.1.8.

pikarl

Hi,

I solved above problem now. My MySQL (4.1.13) is creating new tables in this strange swedish char set by default. I now created this convert table by myself in utf-8 and uncommented the following lines in yabb22_to_smf.php:

// convert_query("
// DROP TABLE IF EXISTS {$to_prefix}convert");

// convert_query("
// CREATE TABLE {$to_prefix}convert (
// real_id TINYTEXT NOT NULL ,
// temp TINYTEXT NOT NULL ,
// type TINYTEXT NOT NULL
// ) ENGINE=MYISAM");

Then it worked. But now I have a different problem:

I use the attachment function of YaBB. Now the converter tries not only to copy all the YaBB attachment images (11 MB) but additionally 1 GB+ of all images included in posts on external servers. That should not happen.

Any ideas?

ThorstenE

I don't know much about YaBB but the converter should not convert "external" Links as attachments. Is there a reference file for each "external" attachment in the YaBB attachments directory?

pikarl

No, I just get lots of images with encrypted filenames. My /attachments looks like this:

ThorstenE

how many file are in the YaBB upload directory ($uploaddir)?

pikarl

ThorstenE

the converter checks different vars before inserting the data into the convert table

if (isset($yabb['uploaddir']) && !empty($message[12]) && file_exists($yabb['uploaddir'] . '/' . $message[12]))

are you sure the variable $yabb['uploaddir'] is set to the right path?

Well I don't have a path.pl file so how do I go about getting around this.  I have my Boards, Sources, Members, Variable, Modules, Attachments, Messages and Templates backed up and that's all I have.
Am I dead in the water?  Or is there hope for me?

place a "sample" paths.pl to your YaBB folder, then our converter should be able to read the old data files..

try the attached version.

I checked this now, the path is set correctly to the absolute directory and $yabb['uploaddir'] is set to it as well. Now I finally know what´s going wrong but I don´t have an elegant solution. In function convertStep12() in yabb22_to_smf.php the while loop is running infinitely. So he is copying YaBB´s 160 attachment files many times to SMF´s attachment directory. But I do not get why the while loop is not breaking up at this point as it should:

if (mysql_num_rows($result) < $block_size)
break;

My workaround for the moment is to set the number of loops to the number I assume to be needed regarding the block size and the total number of files in YaBB´s attachment folder.

This is my first post, so bare with me... :D

I am running Yabb 2.2(which is not a clean install but upgraded from prior versions as I have been using yabb for years), I also have SMF 1.1.8 installed, running a mysql 4.1 database. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it, I don't know anything about mysql or PHP, yes im pretty technically literate but after many hours I can't get it to pass without an errorI tried yabb22_to_smf_.php and of course I also tried yabb21_to_smf.php and yabb2_to_smf.php to compare errors, and they are all different errors naturally.

After I run the yabb22_to_smf.php convertor and I get the following:

ThorstenE

dataangel, have you tried the yabb22_to_smf.php attached to this topic (first post)?

dataangel

I didn't say directly that I tried it, but yes that was the one I used and then I tried the others. Edited my main post.  ;)

SleePy

How many posts do you have on your yabb forum?
Can you attach or send me your forum.master file from your yabb board files? My email is listed on the team page if you prefer to email it :)

I have something like 2000 posts? However each thread is its own file... when I run the convertor all the posts are there, however the topic convertor fails so theres NO threads for the posts to be assigned.

Do any boards convert?

Far as I can tell I think the boards conversion may be failing. But I don't see why

Edit,
We could try this
Find in the yabb2_to_smf.sql

list ($tempCatID, $tempID, , $description, $mods, , , , , $doCountPosts, , , $is_recycle) = explode('|', rtrim($line));
// !!! is_recycle -> set recycle board?

Add before:

if (substr($line, 0, 3) == 'qq~')
$line = substr($line, 3);

I think I see it now.
Make a backup of your forum.control.

Open it. The very last line should have something similar to "general_cat|news||All"

Change general_cat to 1. I think this is the issue here as that is an invalid cat id. The converter can't find it so index errors are occurring and the conversion isn't completing.

Did the members get converted?

Those line errors are way off from what I have, so this is making debugging harder to track down. I don't think it is anything you are doing, most likely just issues with line endings from different operating systems.

No it did not convert the members.  :(

Would you be able to just send me all your yabb database? I can try the converter locally then. I don't know why it isn't working. I have a feeling it may be due to the changes yabb is doing in order to work with mysql and other databases.

Thanks

You can safely ignore this error.  It is a bug in our main convert.php file.  This doesn't affect your conversion.

Hi All,

I have just converted from yaBB 2.3 to SMF 1.1.12, went very smoothly but I have had a few errors. All of my posts and users seem to be there, but I haven't done a thorough testing, other than logging in with my admin account (which was transferred also).

Can anyone shed any light on the following errors please?? They seem fairly unimportant by description, but are they likely to impact things down the line? Should I try and resolve these (or go and change settings in SMF to reflect) before I make the SMF the live forum (the old yaBB forum is currently shut down in maintenance mode,and was for the conversion).

Thanks for any advice...

Please check this box to delete the converter right now for security reasons. (doesn't work on all servers.)

Now that everything is converted over, your SMF installation should have all the posts, boards, and members from the YaBB 2.2 installation.

We hope you had a smooth transition!

BTW: very happy so far, next step is looking at a portal or CMS integration :)

EDIT: The yabb22_to_smf.php used was the once currently attached to this thread, and convert.php from here: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=140741.0

Hello... Can anyone suggest what these errors might relate too please? Is it max avatar size or something?

IamTheBoy

Does (and where?) this converter log anywhere - I'm getting an error about 1 hour into conversion:

Converting...
Converting mark read data...The database value you're trying to insert does not exist: id_member

But no clues as to what it is doing at the time, except doing the mark read stuff.  (I'm trying to convert a 2.5AE YaBB to SMF 2.0 RC5)

I guess I'll add to this.  Was working on converting YaBB 2.2 board to SMF and got this error:

Converting topics (part 1)...Wrong value type sent to the database. Integer expected. (num_views)

Please let me know if you need any more information.  Thanks.

moodydood

OK, found my answer after some digging.  That error is MySql saying "Hey, you're trying to insert something weird into the integer field called num_viewed."  I opened up the yabb22_to_smf.php script and looked for that field.  I then had it print out the variable that it was trying to insert into the table and it turned out that it was inserting a string into the field.  I then added some code to check if that variable was an integer and reran the script and it ran through all the way to the end.  Thank God, because converting has been nasty.  Hope this helps someone.  Time for a beer.

Hello, I'm trying to convert my Yabb 2.4 forum and got the same error as moodydood:

QuoteConverting...

Converting membergroups... Successful.
Converting members... Successful.
Converting settings... Successful.
Converting personal messages (part 1)... Incomplete.
Not quite done yet!
This conversion has paused to avoid overloading your server, and hence not working properly.
Don't worry though, nothing's wrong - simply click the continue button below to start the converter from where it left off.

Converting topics (part 1)... Successful.
Converting mark read data...The database value you're trying to insert does not exist: id_member

Can someone help with this? moodydood if you're still around maybe? :D

Thanks!

moodydood

No problem.  I'll try to help if I can.  However the problem you're running into is the same as IamTheBoy's problem, which is what opened the topic.  I just added to it and I never got that particular problem, so I don't know how much help I will be.  Maybe tell me what steps you took to get to this point?

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to reply and offer for help.

I did nothing fancy other than install latest smf and pointing the yabb2.2 conversion script to my current yabb2 install. I read  IamTheBoy's post and he suggested putting yabb2 into maintenance mode and running all cleanup routines, which I hadn't done. Do you think that this can cause a problem?

I was thinking of just installing smf 1.something like  IamTheBoy did and running the 2.4 conversion script and see what happens.

But I'm really interested in your opinion, what would you suggest?

Cheers,

(sorry for replying with email too, I thought you contacted me there instead of posting on the forum!)

For what it's worth, I followed Iamtheboys' instructions and converted mine when I was playing around with SMF and it worked great. I went from YaBB 2.4 to SMF 1.1.14 full version, then upgraded to SMF 2.0.2.

I used the instructions from the following post.
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=457735.0

Hope this helps.

Sorry about the link, I'm on my phone.

Well I did all the suggestions from IamTheBoy's post, and it seems it did its job! Of course I'll have to comb and massage it a bit till I'm sure it did a 100% job (and see how I can port over my existing shoutbox etc etc etc).

Anyway, thanks to all the people that helped :)

Glad to hear it worked. I was worried when I did mine but all went well.

Hi everybody. Knowing that this is an old topic, but still hoping for an answer. I was trying to convert my Yabb2.2.2 to SMF with the converter and got the following error message. As I'm not very good at this is there any suggestions what to do?

Converting...

Converting membergroups... Unsuccessful!
This query:
REPLACE INTO `viskikaa_smf`.smf_membergroups
(ID_GROUP, groupName, onlineColor, minPosts, stars)

(3, SUBSTRING('YaBB Moderator', 1, 80), SUBSTRING('green', 1, 20), '-1', SUBSTRING('5#starmod.gif', 1, 255));

Caused the error:

Hi there!

In fact, I curently try to directly convert from YaBB 2.3.1 to SMF 2.0.9.

It seems as if i'm half way through (even though the forum looks quite broken, when I log in... - I still hope, this will become better...)

But now the converter stops with this Message (see image below)

What mods are you talking about? And what' happening with the database?

Maybe it is a sfaer bet to convert to an elder SMF Version (like 1.1.n ) and then go for a second try to convert that to SMF 2.x ?

Best regards,
Herbert

Yes, I would say to try with 1.1 first. These converters are quite old...

Hello there,

I've just converted my YaBB 2.4 to SMF 1.1.21. I tried it with the latest version forst but it didn't work.

So far, everything worked fine. However there is still some minor issue: Any text gets cut off at the first ä, ö or ü character. So, there is some chance that I just choosed the wrong charset (I choosed UTF-8). Or will I have to change the language in the forum first? If so, I didn't find a proper language pack (german) for the old version. These ones https://download.simplemachines.org/index.php?languages;id=21 doen't work correctly.

Does anyone have the same issue and know how to fix? Woukld be great. Thank you

Holger

HolgerGr

Well, I restarted the converting process with ISO 8859-1 charset now. I also changed the forums charset to ISO 8895-1. In rsult, the forums titels and descriptions are completely. Also some of the userposting. But still there are some missing by cutting off behind the first Ä, Ö or Ü
