People are never happy. They complain about one thing, and then when we do it, other people will complain. Never going to end...

How about we remove all of your painfully uploaded pictures everytime you uninstall SMG to upgrade it?

That's a bug I fixed in beta 2. See smf-media.org.

Where? which post/thread discusses this bug and the fix to it?

Ive been searching smf-media.com for a long time now this morning and I can not find anything that addresses the problem I reported in my previous post.

Im guessing I am using the wrong search criteria on smf-media.com

I managed to find all the files. I would have thought that when one uninstalls a mod it would remove all presence of itself.

Cheers

ugh! Bite your tongue!

That would make upgrading a ROYAL pain and it would mean losing all the images/videos that have already been uploaded to the SMG's mgal_data folder. That would suck!

Soms

Nao (or Dragoon) can you offer any wisdom about this?

Rockz

I just installed SMG for the first time.  I set up a test gallery as Admin and set permissions both for access through SMF as well as the relevant permissions for the gallery under SMG.

Now when I log in as a member that should have permission to view the gallery, I am unable to see anything.  I do get the Gallery button on the menu at the top, but clicking that just brings up an empty screen with the Stats button.  It does show Total Albums: 1, but I can't see the actual album.

Thoughts on what I might be overlooking?

Thanks.

@soms> it's not a SMG bug. And I said I'm no longer willing to support SMG. I'm still reading the topic but I'm only planning to answer messages that show I'm clearly at fault (bug on my side, etc.)
@harvester> click on my name (on smf-media), then "show attachments"... That should be the latest one, obviously. I'm only saying this because it's definitely the thing to do on all boards when you're looking for an attachment by a particular person.

do we know when beta 2 is coming? and is this beta safe that i should install it on my forum or would i be better off sticking with 1.5.6 for now?

Pradius I use SMF Media Gallery 2.0 beta 1

and love it.

The staff and members do too.

Harvester

ok updated using smg2b files that you posted today Nao

no more errors in my forum error log

BUT

I still dont see where to define my absolute file path as it directs me to within the MGallerySafeMode.php

Quote// Once you entered your FTP account information, rename the file to
// something smart, go to the Admin > SMG > Settings area, and enter
// the absolute file path to this new file. You're good to go.

I also still can not rate any images in the gallery.

If you don't see the text box (in the security settings), then it means your server is NOT in Safe Mode... And you don't need the file!

any idea why I cant get FTP to work  then?

What should happen when I go to the FTP tab in the admin panel of SMG and I select a folder from the drop down? or when I click submit?
currently nothing happens.

Nao 尚

FTP import has nothing to do with safe mode.
I didn't write the FTP import code though, so you'll have to ask Dragooon about it. Both of us are really more comfortable with the functions we wrote by ourselves (given that SMG is such a complicated piece of...)

I just used FTP to upload about 200 files.

using your ftp program, go to the ftp folder in mgal_data
using your ftp programs, load all of the images for a single directory

in gallery admin, go to ftp and select a folder (all of the image files that you just uploaded should be listed)
click proceed.

All of those files are moved into the chosen folder and thumbnails generated.

You can now load files into the ftp directory for the next folder... or edit the uploaded images

Awesome! Thank you Kindred! Worked perfectly!

I had no idea how to use the FTP feature.

Is there a manual for SMG or someplace that I can read how the features work?

There are several things Im not 100% sure about that Id like to read up on.... though the FTP feature was the biggest.

Harvester

I created 55 new folders on my pc, one for each state plus japan, mexico, south africa, italy and canada. I was hoping I could then just go to FTP and upload all the folders to a parent folder and save myself a lot of work.

Sadly I was mistaken

Is there anyway to upload a folder via FTP? or is that something not possible yet?

Kindred

as far as I know, the system will take any FILES in the ftp directory and allow you to place them in any gallery folder.

It will not create a folder structure or anything like that... just the image files.

Dragooon

Actually you're wrong there Kindred, it'll show you the whole folder structure and allow you to select the album for each folder.
