Hi, this is a call for help as I have had no response from support yet.

Basicallly there are a load of problems since the server updates and maintenace ran the other day, not to mention lost users and the rest of it*:

1) Users (Old as well - I read the thing about new users being lost) once logged in cannot do anything, they time out and also get stuck in a log-out loop.  Ok, we like visitors but don't mean to trap them here!

2) As I said no one can post, and my moderator password is rejected even when it has already accepted it at initial login.  This means I cannot do any updates or whatever is needed.

3) Cookie handling seems to have gone to lunch somewhere else, as for some reason it will not recognise users (this I suspect is the main problem here).  I had to set my security settings low which is no good for the vast majority of people.

Basically it's there but no-one can get into it, so please drop me a line support, I'm not impressed at this point, but I am soothed somewhat by how excellently it all worked before!! :)

*I realised the message refering to the lost users was specific to this forum in August so please ignore that bit, sorry.

This is your first post, so you haven't requested support previously have you?

What server maintenence? If you mean here @ simplemachines.org, that has no effect at all on end users boards on their own servers.

You need to provide more info, what update? A link to your board would help also.

Thanks for the reply, the board is a hxxp:www.digitalgirl.co.uk [nonactive]

On the previous request I mean that I sent a form based request to support as my users were having to communicate their problems via another site...

There was a recent update to the servers right, and previously these have caused end user problems or have I read problems experienced here on this forum as being ones with wider issues ?  Sorry if I have, I thought what I was reading related to the service as a whole, not this forum specifically, as the link was on the home page under 'news and notables'.

Even so, one of my colleagues contaced OLI and told me they were upgrading their server.

I wouldn't have thought myself that this would effect the settings on the forum but I do not know a lot about forum maintenance bar downloading updates, so it would be great if I could get into the site first. As the site had been running perfectly since June and on seeing the problems caused by maintenance it seemed the most likely cause..

Please forgive my ignorance of forums and servers!!

Not sure where you mean, there isn't a form for support on this site, the only place to get support is on these forums.

Depends what they have changed, I noticed you are using url cloaking through, do things work properly if you access the forum through it's proper url of http://www.forum30.olicentral.com/digitalgirl2/index.php rather than the frame based redirect?

hehe Well maybe no one told you but there's a form and also an email for support available from the simple machine home page here in the 'contact us' section, although it is suggested trying the forum first....try out the link:

http://www.simplemachines.org/about/contact.php

Tried your suggestion but no difference, I log in ok, then try to access the admin section, get asked for the p/w again and get:

QuoteAn Error Has Occurred!
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.

Then I get stuck in the same loop that the users are getting, logging out gives the same error message...it is also impossible to post for the same reason.

any ideas greatly appreciated.

PS. apologies for my misread of the simplemachines post on a forum update, I thought it was refering to more recent updates in general.

lukke

That is exactly the same problem I came here to find the answer to.

Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.

This is happening on my board. Now I shall go thru this forum to see if I can find an answer to that, I'll come back later to see what answer you get  :)

Okay, thanks to support here for dealing with me and apologies if my lack of knowledge led me like a crazy man up the garden path.  It might be a server problem, but I could well have my tail between my legs if it turns out that we missed something important doh!

To anyone else ill-informed this may help if like me you are a lowly moderator and are not sure what's going on in administrator land:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=41955.0

Lukke, if you're locked out too, then you'll probably need to contact your server to get into the site, good luck  :)

So the moral of this story people is make sure you get fully informed about updates.  Thanks to OLI for sorting out the problem so quickly, it looks like something was missing. Thanks to friends, family, the director, dogs, cats, plants and all the wonderful people that made this possible...

okay yes, I think I can see that tail somewhere between my legs now... :-X and  :-[ but  :D
