upgrade stuck at beginning 1.1.21 to 2.0.15
« on: August 23, 2018, 05:48:34 PM »
I'm trying to update my 1.1.21 forum to the current 2.0.15 version, and the installer fails (just gets stuck) at the first step.  It also gets stuck in a similar way if I choose the 'backup' option when starting the upgrade.  (doesn't seem to be doing any of the database actions)

***Screenshot is attached.

I have the same result when I tried to run the 2.0.13 upgrade (I read a hint on this forum made me think it might work)

I've run Repair settings.php, no change.

My forum is active at northtexasvegetablegardeners.com/forum and seems to be working fine.

It is a pretty plain forum, default theme.

SMF File   Your Version   Current Version
SMF Package   SMF 1.1.21   SMF 1.1.21
Sources   1.1.20   1.1.20
Default Templates   1.1.21   1.1.21
Language Files   1.1.21   1.1.21

server info:
PHP   5.4.24
MySQL   5.6.32-78.1

I'm lost!   I don't even know what to look at to figure out what is going wrong.

Why is the system trying to load SQLite?

Maybe something in server config?  That's an odd place for error logs.

Can you upgrade to 2.0?

I was trying to upgrade to 2.0.15, so you mean this version, or something different?

I don't know.  I found this error log by using my webhosting cPanel log feature.  But I don't understand it.

This means my webhost server right?    If so, I'm not sure I'd know how to proceed.

Tried the upgrade 2.0.0 package.  Result is the same.  It hangs at the very start of the process. "Executing upgrade script 1 of 2.
Executing: "Updating and creating indexes..." (1 of 19 - of this script)"

Do you have a good current backup of your database?

What Database Engine setting is displayed in repair_settings?
I see 2 strange things in repair_settings:
1) see screenshot -- there is no entry for the type of database.
2) there is no 'save' button at the bottom of the page.  When I ran the repair_settings earlier today, it had a save button.

I just realized I'm trying to use the SMF 2.0 repair tool.  I'm wondering if it is compatible with my 1.1 version?

It’s the same tool. It detects the correct version.

That screenshot shows your problem.  Value not found.  Click the blue text and then save

correct.  The blue text is clickable, but clicking has no effect on the appearance of the save button.

Hmmm... then edit Settings.php directly to add the dbtype

I went through a series of things that seemed to make things worse.  So I restored my database from a backup, deleted all the files in my HTML folder and restored them as well.

I manually edited the Settings.php file, added
$db_type = 'MySQL';
$queryless_urls = 0;
so I get no errors now when running repair_settings.php

then I run the 2.0.15 upgrader.  I get error about a theme (I think?).  see attachment.

I restored again, then logged in to SFM as admin, removed all the theme options, set all users to core theme and tried upgrade again.  I got the same result.

I fixed the problem with the theme error by deleting 6 records in the smf_themes table that were pointing to a directory that doesn't exist.  I think this was from years ago when my webhost moved my files to a different directory.

Now I'm back to the original problem --- stuck at the beginning of the upgrade process.   (see screenshot)

Not on my computer, but if you can go here, register with same username, I'll set up a board for you tomorrow and you can attach your phpmyadmin db backup  I'll see if it will upgrade on my server.  Had to do this for a couple of GoDaddy forums, upgrade just wouldn't run on GD.

i would suggest that you reach out to your host. you should not have those errors. your host should fix them, which may or may not correct the issue you are having.

yup....   the first issue was due to the fact that the dbtype was not defined, so it hung.

the second issue seems to have been because you had the leftover themes (sounds like you deleted the directories without ever deleting the theme in the smf admin, maybe)

the third and latest errors shows a missing index.php

I just tried.  They don't want to fix them.  Say they will not cause any issue.

Maybe something changed the time I had that error, but now that I check the index.php file is there.
