I have been hit by lots of fake members (spam) registering to my forum. Is it better to ban them or delete them? I know banning them prevents them from reregistering, etc. but there are a few hundred and I want to clear them out. I will also beef up my security to lessen this happening in the future. Also, if I delete them is it ok to do it in cPanel? which would be much faster. Thanks

Kindred

Do not delete them directly in the database. That will screw up your site.

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

What kind of "beef up my security" did you have in mind?

it helps to change your security questions once a month or so
this can drastically reduce spambots from being able to register successfully
also, to delete them just do it while logged into the site and delete the user + all posts at the same time
(ie: click the user account name, then "actions" then delete this account)

My security questions were too simple. I will make them a bit more complicated.

Are these members live human beings,  or spam bots? I use the recaptcha questions and I have the stopforumspam.com mod installed. It compares every registration attempt to a spammer database and blocks anything that is red flagged.
I have had zero spam problems so far.
