I know others must have noticed it, and charter members are already using it, but when does it go public? I want my forum to say
Powered by SMF 1.1 RC2 | SMF © 2001-2005, Lewis Media
but dont get to yet. Will it be a christmas present to us?

It's not available to charter members yet.

Correct its not. Unless there are some special circumstances I am not aware of course.

pcigre

I don't get it. Why isn't public what it's finished???

1MileCrash

who says it's finished? it only goes public once it has all of the aware bugs at that time corrected.
The only thing php can't do is tell you how much milk is left in the fridge.

There is an argument for the words "SMF is never finished!"

Also you show me a piece of software that is "finished".

Releases of SMF are pretty simple and straightforward in that once a version is deemed ready by the developers then it is often released to Charter Members first.

Honestly pushing anyone on release dates really serves no purpose. Besides it is much better for the reputation of SMF to release stable and good software than to just rush out new versions.

When its ready to be used out in the open by everyone you can be assured it will be available.

I presume the RC2 CVS release your using on RAWK is for testing etc.

Ben_S

Yep - I've always used CVS snapshots.

I'm going to be starting another forum soon...and one for a demo for my webhosting since i will install smf for free for any of my customers but i want dont to have to upgrade them both like 2 days after I install them, anyone know [b[about[/b] when it will be public since accoring to Compuart it was released to charter memebr's already. If its soon i'll wait and if its going to be longer then I'll just go ahead and install 1.1rc1.

RC2 Public MIGHT make it before New Years.  This is subject to change.  Like I said it MIGHT.  Don't take my word for it.

I thought RC2 was meant to be out for normal people :P by Christmas? Meaning it should be out tomorrow?

I said I'd hope it was out for Christmas. I however count the Christmas period as Christmas, as oppossed to Christmas day itself - so there is still lots of time. :)

Besides, I didn't say normal people - I might have meant only special people :D
