Hi,

I have moved some of my topics and suddenly all my videos have been converted to links - when I edit thr posts - each url has the URL and /URL tags before and after it - I remeber reading this before somewhere before ages ago but can't remeber where - was there a quick-fix for this?

PS. I'm using a manual entry for 2.1.4 on SMF 1.1.7

Nao 尚

What do you mean "2.1.4"?
If you're talking about a version of "Auto Embed Video Clips", I would strongly advise to update to Aeva 5.1.28... I can't support earlier versions that I never even saw myself ;)

If you want me to I can provide you with a German translation. However, I'd need some hints regarding some strings I actually don't know what they mean or, in other words, what's the intention behind...

'Fix uses of the embed HTML with an embeddable link'

Include the Original Link
(for sites that don't have it in the player)

Embed Local Files [Excludes attachments] --> what does "exclude attachments" mean? That attachment's won't be shown as actual attachments anymore or that it doesn't work with attachments? Or something else?  ;)

'Therefore unless you manually fish for an embeddable url yourself, embedding will NOT work for these sites.' --> maybe someone could explain this to me and also what 'lookups' means in the context of embedding movies utilizing Aeva.

Of course I could translate it word by word but this probably wouldn't make sense at all...

Cheers and happy new year!  ;)

Excellent, thanks for the update!  Keep up the great work!   8)  I support the 'new additions'   ;D

'Fix uses of the embed HTML with an embeddable link'
If a user goes to Youtube, copies the "embed link" and pastes it to your board, it will be a complicated mess with <object> and <embed> html tags and lots of stuff in it.
If you allow the use of the [html] tag on your board (which you should), your user will have to include his code inside html tags. Otherwise, simply enable this feature and the html code will be "recognized" by Aeva and turned into its parent page's URL. Which will embed fine, in turn.

QuoteInclude the Original Link
(for sites that don't have it in the player)
Well, for Youtube again, if you click on the video, you're redirected to the video's page.
On some other websites, clicking on the embedded video won't do anything, and there'll be no link to go there, so there's no way to visit the original page. Enable this option so that your users can visit the original site. It's fair practice.

QuoteEmbed Local Files [Excludes attachments] --> what does "exclude attachments" mean? That attachment's won't be shown as actual attachments anymore or that it doesn't work with attachments? Or something else?  ;)
It won't work with attachments.

Quote'Therefore unless you manually fish for an embeddable url yourself, embedding will NOT work for these sites.' --> maybe someone could explain this to me and also what 'lookups' means in the context of embedding movies utilizing Aeva.
Just use the word "lookups"... It's hard to translate. Or use "Remote/distant/external verification".

Quote from: taja116Dont get me wrong I love your MOD its just that by allowing, in fact leaving others with the ability to do such a thing is as bad as actually encouraging it. So please, for one last time I will ask... Please don't allow such a feature...

Don't do something you may one day realize was a big mistake... & don't give into the demands of others if they are so low as this

Hmm, this is why I included this rule in all of my forums:
No Advocacy! Posts or chats of advocacy, proselytizing, campaigning or promotion of such things as politics, law, religion, personal beliefs, environment or other "personal agenda" issues are not permitted.

Cheers,
Gene

p.s.. shall we get back on-topic? Once again, merci beaucoup Nao for sharing this great plugin.

lol it was until your post! lol
Although I do agree ;)

Nao, this mod is lookin great mate!!
Im still on Karls beta, and manually makin slight changes as you do so, but looks like Its almost time to jump on board.
Most little knots look ironed out, and its only the new features that are needing a second look. ie disable adult content function.
Good enough for me!
But....  lol    I'll wait a lil longer, as stated earlier, I have no problems with what I have atm.

Thank You once again champ :)
Do NOT give admin and/or ftp details to just anybody, see if they are trust worthy first!!  Do your homework ;)

Can someone please add some additional instructions for installing AEVA-5.1.25 on SMF-1.1.7. This will help many beginners who will otherwise have to go over loops and hoops. I suggest that these instructions  be appended to the end of the page at http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=parse

Activating AEVA
1.   Log-in as administrator and click on the Admin menu.
2.   In the left column, search for and click on Features and Options.
3.   Locate and click the AEVA tab.
4.   Enable AEVA by clicking on checkbox for Enable Aeva mod (Master Setting).
5.   Now you should be able to see the familiar youtube screen instead of a link.

Happy new year everyone :)

Sabre> I'm really sorry that I'm doing little changes to the .xml files, I know I found it annoying myself when I was a simple Aevac user -- even then, changes between 3.x versions were few but I'd had preferred to have none of them ;)
I had to manually uninstall Aevac 3.x entirely so that I could install Aevac 4.x when I "got the job".

Anyway -- I'm afraid there will still be changes to come in the next versions, so you might want to make sure Aeva is among your last installed mods so that you can easily uninstall it later. (Same for SMF Media Gallery, by the way.... :D Although it's been a long time since we made manual changes to the SMF files for it. Eheh.)
My goal with Aeva is to have a "perfect" version at one point, that will change as little SMF code as possible.
In order for this to be possible, I need to move all data over to the Subs-Aeva*.php files and only make distant calls from within the SMF code. I've already done this for a file or so, I'll do this soon for the whole admin area.

jettoh> There's an automatic redirection after installation... Doesn't it happen on SMF 1.1.7 too?

Well ... I did it! I uninstalled all the mods, including the YouTube mod, ran the large upgrade and installed the AEVA mod. Much to my surprise it's working now (don't say "I told you so"  :P ). I still have to remove the youtube bbc tags for hundreds of videolinks. :-\

I'm confused about something. Some of the Youtube urls are working, some not. I even checked to see if the authors of those videos allowed external embedding or not. Everything should be fine from that point of view.

Is there something I'm overlooking ?

Nao 尚

I told you so! :D

Anyway -- you don't have to convert the links manually... I thought the mod would behave but apparently it doesn't? Maybe I should remove the "will not conflict with the YT mod" mention from the readme file.

You can however use the attached script to remove all [youtube] tags automatically. (It was written by Karl. He posted it earlier along with other files.)

Regarding your non-working links, please post the direct links to your pages where they don't work. I always try my best to make everything work fine for everyone.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

A last comment from me on the adult issue: Google has computers scanning the net for images/videos. They also have automatic filters that recognise images as being with naked people. So it's all computerized and as we all know this can fail in recognition. I guess that's one of the reasons you can enable/disable the function. They simply can't guarantee the filter is 100% correct, so they give us the option.
I'm quite sure they would disallow that kind of videos/images if they could.

Personally I don't have anything against porn - after all I live in the most open country in the world about that issue. I just don't think it has it's place in this mod.

Of course they wouldn't.

Again: just disable the feature altogether. What's wrong with that? It's disabled by default. Just don't check the box. You see the checkbox? Don't click on it. Or click on it, but don't save. Oh, naughty boy, you clicked on it? And then you saved? You really want the porn sites, don't you? Ah yes, if you want them, you will still have to click again, and save again, to enable porn sites manually, because they're still disabled even after allowing porn sites. Now they're enabled? Great. Guess what? You'll still have to post porn URLs to your website. They won't post by themselves, out of thin air.

See my point?
Now, here's another important point. Important enough to be shown in bold.

*Whether you enable adult site integration or not*, anyone on your boards can post a link to the adult sites in question. It just won't be embedded.
Also, anyone can post an adult video's embed code under html tags and still get the video to embed, unless you specifically forbid SMF from using the "html" tag (which is not the case by default). (At least this is the case on my websites, from a try I made a couple of weeks ago. And I don't remember doing anything to HTML integration there.)
So, yes, on a fresh install of SMF, without Aeva installed, you can probably get adult videos embedded in your topics. Don't shoot the messenger.

Last time, I thought, "to hell with it. Karl would have added adult site support anyway. Let's go for it and be done with all the requests and debates." So I did it. Now could we please switch to another topic? I'm sure no one will give a damn about this once we're done talking.

If you don't have a problem with adult sites, then don't waste time contesting their integration. If you have a problem with adult sites, then don't check the box. If you have a religious problem regarding the simple fact that the word "adult websites" appears in the mod ("the devil is attempting to lure me into clicking the box, saving, clicking another box, saving, going to these porn sites and posting porn links to my website!"), then you need to see a doctor. Fast.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Thanks for the script. Things are worse than previously thought. I'll get back to this topic as soon as I'll sort things out.  :)

Automatic redirection? Sad to say, I honestly cannot remember whether an automatic redirection took place for smf-1.1.7. Please bear in mind that if the redirection appears unexpectedly, ordinary users may just think "what is this thing?" and just move on to another step. At least that's what could have happened to me and  some other ppl who have posted the same problem to this and other forums. Anyway, because I am not a savvy coder, I have always found smoother sailing with instructions like Step 1-Do This, ......., Step N-Click Finish. I often wonder why my hair is thinning more whenever I install new softwares!
Please consider my suggestion as an intent to improve aeva further and with no malice.

Big thanks to Nao, Happy New Year and happy decoding.

Hi Nao,

First of all thank you for such a nice mod, it helps a lot..

I upgraded to your latest version today from some v3. release..

In this version, we can not put videos and other things like images together in the same line.. (Although there is enough space)

Is there any way to rearrenge it? And make it work like it used to be??

Nao 尚

@Relyana> Worse? With the script?

@jettoh> Well, if someone else makes another request similar to yours, I'll consider it...

@erdem86> I don't even remember this being possible in v3. I don't think it ever was. Anyone -- that was also one of the things I was planning to address with the new upcoming aeva tag. Since vids will be put inside a table or div that can be none-, left-, right- or center-aligned, you'll be able to left-align vids next to each other.

Nao, this is in no way a complaint about the adult thing. But, I believe you are incorrect. Only the forum admin(s) can use the html tag. There is an html permission mod which could be used to achieve that capability for the user and control it somewhat for the admin:

No, don't worry :) It has nothing to do with aeva or with that script (I wasn't trying to sound sarcastic ... sorry if I did). I can't even run the script, can't install themes, mods ... anything .... everything comes up with the 99 (nobody) owner. I'll ask my webhost to chown the files again (did it before the upgrade and it worked out) ... if this doesn't help I'll have to wait for smf 1.1.8 to fix the package manager issue.
