hey peeps
i just upgraded from 1.0.5 to 1.1RC2 only prob i have now is that when you go to make a post/reply there are purple borders around all the smileys and links

you can see it here www.argylecarclub.com/forum [nofollow]
goto Forum info/help/new topic

i have only been involved with building sites and everything for about 4 months, so for me doing the upgrade took about an hour with the instructions, plus i've only been using FTP for about a month!!!
cheers

it's cool, it's just the theme i'm using, helios.
Track user, Track IP and Show Permissions wont load either but it all works with the smf theme.

Please use the search.  This has been asked a couple of times about the image border.  Please add this to style.css for yout theme.

Just wanted to add two cents here.

That was the easiest upgrade I have ever done.  Good Job folks.

You should push this release forward to the final now, it is mature enough and many needs the new release for their public websites.

There will always be bugs, but this seems to far to be damned stable and easy to install/upgrade. It works perfect for me and so far what I can see no mayor annoyances at all except that the mail feature could be much better to mail users in huge forums at once.

Believe it or not many bugs were found with this release.  So it wouldn't be a good thing to do that.  Final has to be a clean product with as little bugs/problems as possible.

Well as long you clearly show the admins who will control and install this product what the bugs are they will have an easy chance to decide if it safe on their specific system or if it is possible to make a quick fix. I dont know any product in the world with no serious bugs in any kind of aspect. Most Open Source projects are even terrible in their codebase, I do not think that this product in that level, this is a good product :)

So because other products are released with bugs we the SMF team should do the same, just for the sake of it?

Since it's a good product it should stay a good product and release a product that works instead oh having to patch it up everyother day because a bug was found.  It's true, it's hard to find a program without bugs.  But good programs should try their best to eliminate all the known issues before it hits Final stage or it wouldn't be Final.

Did I said that ?  Nope.

You have your free will, but if you wish to make this into a faster progress chain you really need to release a new version very soon which could be used as long it doesnt corrupts data or opens up a new hole. Other things is up to the server admin, this is a very small product which means that all decent administrators should be able to determine the riscs with this product. This product will not be 100% perfect before any release, the bugs will always come and go from one or other way. But let people know the riscs with the product in clear bold text before they install it if there is found critical bugs.

Maybe a script when you install it can make a check on this server to look for any critical bug information and show it to the installing person and make him/she to press a certain key to continue for accepting the bugs and maybe quick fix them if it's possible.

We have a fair few things to do before 1.1 Final, a few bugs/nuisnances to fix. That said, the plan is that the upgrade from RC2 to 1.1 Final will be an easy one.

Also, just because we don't release the final today or tomorrow doesn't mean development has stopped. In fact I'm working very hard developing the next version of SMF already. The fact is that we need to let an RC sit for 4-8 weeks to ensure all the bugs that can possibly caught are.

From releasing 1.0 we are only on 1.0.5 now - a year on - and haven't had any fixes for that for about 6 months I believe. That's the least I'd except from 1.1, I'd like 1.1 to not need any patches if at all possible.
I'm only a half geek really...

JayBachatero

Ok you make no sense at all.  What you're saying is like putting a big red sign at the end of a hill saying caution be aware that you might die in the process of falling.  Will you continue ahead?  Maybe you like taking risks but not everyone does.  That's why each release goes through a series of steps before it makes it anywhere.  I would not use SMF if this is how the product was to be developed with a bunch of bugs.

Also if you would like to continue this conversavion please start a new topic stating your points.  This is not the topic to debate this.

I have this on a clean install with Orstio's bridge 3.20, SMF 1.1 RC2, Joomla 1.0.5, when you click on a board

You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ' 1, 3)' at line 3
File: /home/httpd/vhosts/mydomain.co.uk/subdomains/www1/httpdocs/forum/Sources/MessageIndex.php
Line: 102

I have uploaded the file MessageIndex.php again incase it was corupted

Thanks

With knowledge from communication- / computersystem security and juridicial procedures and human computer interaction behavior that makes a lot sense. But that is the reason to add a such feature I suggested, to atleast give people the chance to understand what can go wrong if there are any critical issues with the application. That have nothing to do if it is a Beta, Release Copy or Final or this specific release.

I agree, I will not continue this discussion with you or no one else in this thread :)

Hi and thanks for this greate release,

I've a problem with the "quick edit" (Ajax editing : Edit a post without page reloads). It doesn't work when the spellchecker is on : I have this javascript error :

QuoteErreur : [JavaScript Error: "missing ; before statement" {file: "http://www.10qt.net/index.php/topic,8897.0.html" line: 1216 column: 101 source: "0802b1d64c79c852d\');" accesskey="s" />&nbsp;&nbsp;<input type="button" value="V&eacute;rification d'orthographe" onclick="spellCheck(\'quickModForm\', \'message\');" />&nbsp;&nbsp;<input type="submit" name="cancel" value="Annuler" onclick="return modify_"}]
Fichier source : http://www.10qt.net/index.php/topic,8897.0.html
Ligne : 1216, Colonne : 101
Code source :
0802b1d64c79c852d\');" accesskey="s" />&nbsp;&nbsp;<input type="button" value="V&eacute;rification d'orthographe" onclick="spellCheck(\'quickModForm\', \'message\');" />&nbsp;&nbsp;<input type="submit" name="cancel" value="Annuler" onclick="return modify_

Edit : the problem is in the translation :

If I put 3 single quotes, quick edit works :

$txt['spell_check'] = 'V&eacute;rification d\\\'orthographe';

but the button display "Verification d\'orthographe";

So the solution is to use numeric entities :

$txt['spell_check'] = 'V&eacute;rification d&#1.46;orthographe'; (without the dot)

If there isn't a thread already made up, could the mods maybe create a problem/solution thread specifically to correct problems that 1.1 RC2 gave to many people (including myself)?  Make the thread so that people can't reply to it, which would keep it nice and tidy.  I think by doing that you wouldn't have to tell people to do a "search" for possible solutions.
