Um, she's annoyed because i posted about something, that you have a forum specifically for? Fair enough.............

Also, i don't dislike the look of this, i just think it looks the same as Yabb SE.

Oh, and Andrea, i read the first post of this topic, and what exactly does it say that i need to know? I saw nothing important.

David

When you see the code you will understand just what is different.

Well, it's not that - it's more that it always looks suspicious when someone's first post is an ad.  We have a lot of people who come to the forums just to advertise their services - then they don't do anything else.  We try to foster more of a community environment here - and you seem to be making use of that :) Welcome!

As David said, there's a lot of new stuff under the hood - and in the next few weeks we'll be also opening up to the community a few of the special new features.  But for the time being - it is pretty similar to YaBB SE.

Well not really. If you only look a little bit into the forum (for example in the member profile) you see lots of differences. It does not need much work or much reading, just a minimal interest in the community program, to see that there has already a lot changed...

Which therefore shows exactly what the template engine is capable of, you can make it look like anything you want to, just because this skin resembles yabb se doesnt mean the underlieing code is anything like the code for yabb se.

I would have thought someone who runs a webhost would understand that just because a forum looks the same as another forum, the code producting the visusal result doesnt have to be the same?

I don't think Max means the templates Ben. I think he means the way everything is still set out the same as YaBB SE. For example, the way the posts are, how you reply, editing profile etc etc. Some images too.

Also, I haven't seen new features, but I understand its in "Alpha Testing" so I guess there's still time for stuff like that. I think if you're totally changing the name etc, there should be new features, otherwise (to me) it seems a little pointless cos YaBB is a very popular forum.

Anyway, good luck with it all.

The layout of the things you mention are controled by the template engine, it is all skinable.

Well thats cool then. As well as the skins, is there still the option to put whatever you want in a textarea like in YaBB cos that is much easier and its one of the main reasons I use YaBB.

Jeff Lewis

Steven, poke around in your profile, there are a lot of things that have changed. Also, a lot in the admin centers as well.

I know I'm late - but maybe this will help future comers.

We *made an attempt* to make this theme look like YaBB SE.  It is NOT meant to look more like vBulletin or something than YaBB SE.

That said, it's VERY easy to make it look like another forum.  I, for example, made a few pages of a phpBB theme for fun.  You could not tell the difference.

I don't think it looks like any other forum software.  Thats my opinion.  It has its own unique look to it.  oh and BTW, i like this better than the blue =]  ;).

Coming soon!

I was going to say I like the old look better until I saw the Post reply form, which looks better than the old one.  I don't like the buttons: Home, Help, etc.  They are cluttered and not as easy to read.  Larry

And I don't like the name, Simple Machines... simpletons. Furthermore, the smilies look like pumpkins.  And I don't like Apples or XP.  So there...  Larry  ;D

LOL, don't worry.  The default themeS will be different, and you'll like one of them.

How about Simple Machines - easy/simple to use?  :P

Sounds too much like Gates and Jobs.  Software for morons.  Eloquent might be a better choice, but that word has been over-used.  Larry

Well this should make you feel better - the group here is called Simple Machines, the software is called SMF.

I'm really looking forward to seeing some other themes?  :)

How about a screenshot of one?  :P
