No, I believe that patience is not a great virtue, but a necessity. How else have I managed to not kill everyone in front of me in the lunch line at school?

We've all got a LOT on our plates right now, and if we were to AIM every person that SMF/YSE has, it'd take the entire SMF team at least a week just contacting people, putting more stress and aggrevation on us than we truly need.

Just check back often, become an active member here.  You might be surprised as to what you'll learn.  :)

Well, I for one will not be hosting any sites with a company who is not willing to do the least amount of research on their own.  Ironic since I'm looking for a new host.

Cool new things:
MUCH faster.  The entire system has been optimized making this the fastest forum software I have ever seen.

New themeing system and skins program.  SMF allows you to theme and skin any part of the forum with much more control than before.  It's very, very cool the amount of control you have now.

At least 20 new features ranging from how you post to system notifications and database repair.  To get the info on all the new features, beta progress and whatnot, you need to be a charter member.  As such, I won't talk about those features here.

All new permissions, grouping, etc.

And that's just as much as I'm willing to type.  If you don't like the features, keep with the old YaBB SE or use a different, slower forum package.  At least browse around and figure some of this stuff out on your own!

It's easy as an observer to make impulsive comments about one software vs. another. If you wanted to be completely objective, you'd see that there is a hell of a lot of work invested in SMF - and YABB SE for that matter. I am impressed by the workmanship. I'm excited to try the new product, as I have several forums that I've been aching to convert to something fast with a powerful and stable back end - SMF not only fits the bill, but they rival the other players in the game.

In a world where everyone's looking to rake you over the coals, it's a privilege to use an excellent product free of charge.

Nice work guys - take a bow!  8)

It should be because as far as I know these guys started where SE stopped and somebody whispered in my ear that it seems that a few of the team are mighty talented programmers ;)

Only the name..... ? So many rude translations pop into my mind :P

Just found out about SMF.

(started looking today, found phpBB, followed by YaBB, then YaBBSE, which led me to SMF...)

I have a non-profit org I am trying to help, first5ventura.org [nofollow]

I just set them up with mailing list lists.first5ventura.org [nofollow],

(took me three days to research, install, and configure, first time I had to deal with sendmail... having the root password, does not make me a sysadmin...)

and now I am looking for a forum software for them, and another non-profit

So far, I really like SMF, but I since I was so delayed with mailman, they would like me to install this ASAP...

Any idea when SMF is going to be released?

(I know about YaBBSE, but after my experience with mailman/sendmail, I rather just install once...)

Sincerely,

-avi

SMF is still an alpha version...  after, the developpers will allow Charter members to have the first betas, and after it will be released for everyone...

my suggestion for now is to install YaBB SE 1.5.4: the installation is really simple, you will se ;)

Well, I have to say - I'm sorry, but it's not going to be done this week or anything.

The upgrade/converter from YaBB SE is a two click process.  It's really not bad at all.
