Send me an account by PM with a preconfigured album attached to it, I'll give it a look.

Free advice. Given a thousand times. What do you expect, if you can't search the official topic?

Well where is the official topic? I carried out a search and placed my post in one that was relevant.

Contact your host, as I said. Your server isn't configured as it should.

I run 4 websites all with many different features, formats and code styles, this is a cop out.. server is configured correctly..

QuoteAs you like. Aeva Media behaves the same as SMG in terms of file perms, BTW. Unless someone finds a proper way to programmatically fix this issue, I don't see any other solution than contacting your host. Plus, they're paid for that.

I have a site with SMG installed and has been on the same server for over a year with no problems.. this is an issue that you as developers should be addressing, as i am not the only person to report this... if we all had to run of to our hosts when we tried to install a simple mod they'd soon put up the cost... I urge you & the other developers as a collective to combine all of your developer knowledge to resolve this issue, as i believe this could be one of the best SMF Mods of all time. And please dont take this the wrong way, but you need to brush up on your people skills.. if you are to be the spokesperson of Aeva.

I have been looking at the list of great features supplied in this mod. Questions coming... Currently set at SMF 1.1.11 and would like to install this. Then shortly afterwards (about one month) upgrade to SMF 2RC. If I do it that route will I have to reinstall it again onto SMF 2? Also Will I lose any data if I do an upgrade?

Thank you. Nice looking features.

IdanC

i feel useless - it looks perfect...

Arantor

You will have to reinstall if you upgrade, but no you shouldn't lose any data.
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.

rev 190 seems to be okay, but all of the earlier revs were buggy or even crashed right after installing them ;)

Still, I think I'll stay with this solution. Yesterday, when I implemented it, I was a bit fearful because of the extra sql query for each image shown. But then I realized, hey, I'm already calling the entire SMF loading process for each image, i.e. at least 10 sql queries... So, making one slightly slower isn't going to change anything.

The only thing I'll have to keep in mind is, if I get around to implementing clear URLs for previews (as opposed to only thumbnails), I'll have to deal with them at URL retrieval time. It won't be any slower either. The real problem will be for Highslide: how do I determine that a picture is to be marked as seen if the user hasn't clicked on it yet? Considering that this would bypass SMF for loading the picture... I may have to add some Ajax magic to mark a picture as seen in the background right when one clicks on the thumbnail... *But*, and there's a but, it also conflicts (a lot!) with my plans to allow users to switch to other items via the Highslide slideshow controls. In which case, I don't know if Highslide allows me to override its click events... Probably it does, given the number of overrides it offers, but I can't be a 100% sure...

What a fun project to handle ;D

may i ask how do you see the future? ever thought of having aeva stand alone as a media cms?

Nao 尚

The official topic is the sticky one........

This board is supposed to be temporary. Now it has 3 pages of topics. I don't know how the SMF team will deal with transforming it from a board to... a single topic once again.

Once your other 3 websites... Did you install SMG or Aeva Media?

"You as developers": you're talking like "we" are your inferiors... ¬_¬

You're not the only person to report this: yes, you aren't. There are at most a dozen persons who reported this in the last few months. Out of 2000+ successful installs. That's less than 1%. Hardly a bug on my side... Especially when most of these users reported later that the problem was fixed, either by chmodding their albums, or by having their host fix it. I'm not your mom, I'm not doing it for you, at least for free.

"You & the other developers": I'm the only developer on Aeva Media. What are you talking about?

This very well "could" become one of the best SMF mods of all time... For you.
Not everyone needs a gallery. Not everyone needs a video auto-embedder.
It's already the most popular and most downloaded mod. As to whether it's "one of the best", it's up to everyone to determine by themselves, not by me.

Yes I'm the "spokesperson of Aeva" as you say. My people skills are just fine: I don't speak to people. I bring tech support because apparently that's what I'm supposed to do. The more time I spend on fixing everyone's single problems (that, in 95% of the cases, are their own fault, or their host's fault, believe me *I'm the one who fixes them*), the less time I have to spend on adding new features to Aeva Media. People skills are good for tech support people. But I'm the only programmer on this 20.000-line mod, I'm pretty much the only one to know it like I wrote it (obviously), so I have to do tech support as well. And all of that for free, so I don't see why people are complaining that I'm talking rough to them. You know what? That's life. If you want to have some nice hotline talking to you like you're their king, pay for the product. You should be satisfied that I'm handling tech support in these conditions, after all these people like you who've been implying I should talk to them like they're my customers. You're NOT. You're just enjoying stuff I wrote for noisen.com and decided I could share with everyone else.

Nope...
I know it's a popular concept (Coppermine, Gallery2), but I'd rather work directly on systems with user databases.
i.e. attach Aeva Media on a preexisting CMS or framework.

I imagine I could envision a system for WordPress, but it's a long shot and, honestly, I don't see myself maintaining two codebases at the same time. Since Aeva Media is probably going to be updated for several months, maybe years, I can't even consider the idea.
If the current SMF team split situation doesn't get resolved, I will probably port Aeva Media to the new framework that the ex-team will work on (since I'll be working on it, too.) If it gets resolved (which I dearly hope), I'll stay with SMF and everyone's happy.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Nao, please you got me all wrong.. and maybe i didnt explain myself clearly & maybe i asuimed as there were other people listed in the "credits" you had assistance in this project... if you have then MAJOR KUDOS to you.. when i say that this could be the best mod i did mean for those who needed it.. and even those who dont need it will respect it for what it is... and the dedication you have put into it.

One of my sites has a fully functional SMG, and i was hoping to take advantage as i said earlier of this mod as it would fit just right in to one of the other sites i run, as it would save on bandwidth and all the other perks that go with a nice simple to use site.

I did contact my hosts on the off chance it's their fault they say "everything is in order", so mr stuck in the middle (me) is no further forward.

I did not mean to cause you offence, i have much respect for 'developers' and my comment was meant in the totally other way than it was interpretated. I never expect to be treated like a 'king' just with common courtesy, like anybody else. (i'm sure you're the same)..

I will try again to install aeva to a clean install... but please i never meant to offend you in anyway... i'm just looking for answers..

os1

Ok.. update.. all works well on smf 1.1.11  ???

Nao 尚

Uh? You mean this problem solved itself?
Can you repeat what you did to fix it (even involuntarily), step by step?

I am pretty sure I'm doing something stupid here, I've done searches on this forum, in the Faq and on Google for the error but haven't found anything. If it's something stupid feel free to act accordingly but anyway.

I just did a manual install of the files on my site and when I go to anywhere that includes a profile now it says

"Unknown column 'mem.aeva_items' in 'field list'
File: /big/dom/xethansenglishcafe/www/Forum/Sources/Load.php
Line: 896 "

If I remove the lines regarding mem.aeva_items from Load.php it will work fine except the Mod doesn't seem to work of course. I've checked the code I entered in Load.php repeatedly and it all seems to be in it's place where the

Nao 尚

Well, you didn't even finish your sentence :P

Did you actually run db_aeva.php? Is this the most recent beta you're using?

reinstalled again and it seemed to work. Third time was the charm! Or at least third time was the time I didnt' make a mistake anyway...  :P

Nao 尚

@Dismal> You never had this error before, did you...?
@IceBurn> Actually, check your admin area... Aeva Media admin settings... If you have a dropdown that offers you to choose the image manipulation library, then choose it. (And choose GD2, obviously!) If you don't see it, it means you only have one library installed, not both.
@IceBurn²> How could it affect performance when it's disabled..? It only takes an extra cycle per post. And believe me, testing for a variable is nothing. It probably slows down your site pages by a millionth of a millisecond or so. You shouldn't be using SMF2 then, as it has much more code for the same results ;) (Although it's more powerful, obviously.)
@petesky> What do you mean "usergroup permissions (privacy)"?
@chep> No data loss, guaranteed.

@Everyone> Beta 4 candidate!

Version 1.0 Beta 4                               January 28, 2010
-----------------------------------------------------------------
+ Added support for auto-resuming downloads
+ Added ability for moderators to 'silently update' an item
(i.e. no changes to the unseen status or last modified field.)
! Increase item views in more logical situations (embedded fullsize, lightbox preview, etc.)
+ Mark an item as read when loading its preview or full file and finding out it's unseen yet.
! Many optimizations on the unseen counter. Should waste less database space and CPU time now.
+ Added a 'Zoom' link next to the Zoom icon in lightboxes. Translate it via Modifications.language.php.
+ Added item description, and number of comments on an item next to the Details link when opening it via lightbox.
+ In album edit page, forgot to mention that allowed/denied member lists had to be separated by commas.
* Added SMF1 stylesheet for better finetuning in many important gallery pages. Early SMF2 (i.e. pre-RC3)
will get their own, too, as soon as I figure out how to detect it... Beta 5 will be coming soon enough.
* Added many rounded corners and refined layout in many places for SMF2 RC3. Early SMF2: see above.
! Tweaked language loading system to load as much as possible in your own language
* Renamed script.js to am.js and script-admin.js to admin.js, because I can.
! Many more fixes, nobody cares about them, but they're still there.

This beta is NOT available on the mod site for now. Why? Because I think it's working fine, but I made so many changes, I don't want to release it before going to bed (which I'm doing in a minute), and wake up tomorrow morning to find disaster. (If I may say.)
Still, if you're using SMF1, you probably noticed how the recent betas were uglier and uglier. This one should fix these problems.

Download from mod site.

ok, i unistalled all.. deleted everything. Installed a new clean smf uploaded aeva and hey-presto works fantastic.. i then upgraded smf 1.1.11 to smf 2 rc2 and bang its all gone again.... i tried 'revert' feature and nothing... so knowing that aeva works on my server fully i deleted/uninstalled and reinstalled 1.1.11 upgraded to 2 rc2 and uploaded aeva and nothing again 'files not writable'

does this shed any light on the problem? i'm more confused that ever now...

Nao - why is it that when a general album is created, the breadcrum shows the owner's username in it as well?

I'd prefer that general albums are just that, general.  So it would look like: Website >> Media >> Album Name >> Item (rather than Website >> Media >> Username >> Album Name >> Item

freestone

I created a Parent Album.  I then created a child album.  I then loaded 1 pic into the child.

When I click on Media from the Top Bar I see all the parent Albums but the one that has a child that contains a picture shows "No Items" even though the child has an items in it.

If I then click on Albums button at the top of the gallery it then changes the sort order of the Parent Albums that are displayed and the one with a child that has and item then dispalys 1 item in sub-albums

Shy would one view show that there is an items in the child and another not?  What programs are involved so I can try to make the Media button show that the Parent infact has pic in the child albums.

Thanks jw
