HunterP,
modify the file aeva-sites (or something like that)

Zeum,

I believe that the option to change the name is in the aeva admin...   alternatively, change the string in modifications.english.php

no clue... look at the input masks in the file....  I assume there is some option in there for https.

I suspect it's been asked before in this thread, so you could also try search.

This definitely looks like a bug.
I am guessing that php's response to that might depend on the version of php.  So the problem might not have popped up when Nao was working on this.
$config_vars = array(
$warning_message,
'',

This is in function aeva_admin_settings.
Now, in other versions of AEVA, this function looks COMPLETELY different. So it would be difficult even to compare the code.
Where is aeva_admin_settings called, in your version of AEVA? how is that returned array used?
Please attach the file.

which one?

  • If you've been running OK for a while, you can probably safely get rid of the bask_smdb.backup_smf_* tables. They're just backups and may be quite old.
  • Is bask_smdb the correct account to check? Make sure they didn't check the wrong one! I would suggest checking it yourself through phpMyAdmin CHECK and/or SMF's admin database maintenance.
  • Don't worry about the warning about database version 2.0.1. It's identical to 2.0.2. It's just that the developers can't be bothered to properly check versions before issuing this scary message. Also, you apparently didn't properly upgrade from 2.0.1, and didn't run the upgrade.php script.

I have thoroughly checked database and found so many tables of old mods (now they are not part of my smf) and backup tables.
If I manually remove these backup tables, will they effect on performance of SMF?

where exactly is the modifications.english.php ,and what am i supposed to look for?

Kindred

Zeum.... really? You can't do a little research on your own?   it's in the themes/default/languages directory, along with every other language file

And you would obviously be looking for a string that says "Media", assuming that is the text that you plan to change.....

First post here :ducks for cover:

I did post this over on the Wedge support area, but can't figure out how to make a new topic.  :-[
I put it at the end of an existing thread, but it seems quite dormant compared to here, so I hope someone can help.

Mainly I'm looking for information from anyone who bought the paid version of Aeva (2.X)

Aeva Media is very impressive. I'm interested in upgrading to the full paid version.
I've got two questions (and apologies if they've been covered, I've been google fu-ing like crazy and can't find a definitive answer).

1: On the commercial ver. info it kind of hints that you get to keep the software forever once you buy it, which is great. But then on the checkout it says $9.99/year. So is this a recurring payment, and will I need to deposit (or make sure I remember to) pay $9.99 yearly, or am I misunderstanding and it's just a one-off payment forever?

2: Is the footer backlink to Wedge present in the paid version? Before you throw bricks at me, I don't mind if it's a requirement, Nao deserves copyright respects etc. My only feeling was that I wouldn't mind removing the Wedge backlink and leave the respective copyright info. Either way is fine, just hoping someone can clarify whether or not this info is editable once you buy it.

Thanks all, apologies again if these are done to death questions.   :P

QuoteI did post this over on the Wedge support area, but can't figure out how to make a new topic.

If you came to the Wedge forum (which is NOT a support area but a forum for something else entirely), you would make a new topic exactly the same way you would here - find a board, select New Topic.

QuoteMainly I'm looking for information from anyone who bought the paid version of Aeva (2.X)

If you bought the paid version, try asking on the actual Aeva site, aeva.noisen.com.

QuoteBut then on the checkout it says $9.99/year. So is this a recurring payment, and will I need to deposit (or make sure I remember to) pay $9.99 yearly, or am I misunderstanding and it's just a one-off payment forever?

It's $9.99/year if you want to continue receiving access to the support board. You should be aware that support there is limited to when I have time (since Nao actively doesn't support Aeva, I do when I can be bothered and have time)

Quote2: Is the footer backlink to Wedge present in the paid version?

IIRC there's actually an option to disable the backlink entirely in 2.x after all the people moaning about having footer links.

Hey, thanks so much for the help Arantor, that's really helpful.  :D

QuoteIf you came to the Wedge forum (which is NOT a support area but a forum for something else entirely), you would make a new topic exactly the same way you would here - find a board, select New Topic.

I think it may be to do with my newbie status, but the button's not there. I saw someone else mention he was having a similar problem. It's not too easy to navigate the site restrictions etc as they're all in French. I even needed a translator just to figure out the post Q&A.  :P

QuoteIIRC there's actually an option to disable the backlink entirely in 2.x after all the people moaning about having footer links.

Right, interesting. That's not specified in the terms of agreement on Noisen for it, but all I really wanted to remove was the Wedge backlink, I don't mind the copyright.

QuoteIt's $9.99/year if you want to continue receiving access to the support board. You should be aware that support there is limited to when I have time (since Nao actively doesn't support Aeva, I do when I can be bothered and have time)

Right, that's great! So considering that's the only option you can choose (there's no other I can see) it doesn't mean I'll be rebilled yearly and the package won't be suddenly remotely killed after 12 months or something? I know nao isn't offering support anymore, I just wanted to make sure I didn't need to do something extra to cancel a rebilling process?

Thanks again Arantor, appreciate you taking the time to talk with me.

Then you went to Noisen, not Wedge. The main board also doesn't allow people to make new topics any more because too many people can't read the notice that says there is no support for Aeva on the official site (though there is the support board where questions occasionally get answered)

QuoteRight, interesting. That's not specified in the terms of agreement on Noisen for it, but all I really wanted to remove was the Wedge backlink, I don't mind the copyright.

Here's the thing: why remove the backlink if you're not removing the copyright?

QuoteSo considering that's the only option you can choose (there's no other I can see)

You should be able to select 'non recurring payment' - it's using the base SMF 2.0 paid subscriptions system...

No, it won't disable after a year or anything daft like that.

Ah you're absolutely right. I think I started on wedge and somehow linked through to Avea Media's support page.  ;)

QuoteHere's the thing: why remove the backlink if you're not removing the copyright?

I just figured crediting the folks for the mod makes sense, but advertising Wedge doesn't really, as it's a separate product. Is that silly?  :-[

QuoteYou should be able to select 'non recurring payment' - it's using the base SMF 2.0 paid subscriptions system...

In the dropdown under Aeva 2.0 in my paid subscriptions (my profile section), there's no additional selectable option. All that's there is:

"Purchase the Aeva Media module here, optionally with one year of free updates and access to the AeMe private boards. The software will be yours to use forever. SUPPORT IS NOT PROVIDED OFFICIALLY. Take it or leave it."

"$9.99/Year"

It says 'optionally', but there's no option I can see. Am I looking in the wrong place then? (Or is my eyesight failing!) :o

Considering that Wedge started life as a jumbo sized Aeva... not really.

When you press the Order button you get a tick box about making it repeatable.

What you're really describing is a general issue in SMF, actually - you get the same thing with SMF generally about the lack of clarity.

Okay, well then I must be losing my mind.  :D

When I click order, this is all I get. Can't see any checkbox. My browser is Chrome, in-case there are known issue with it:

When I click through to Paypal it indeed notes that I'm signing up for a 'subscription'.

I honestly can't see any other option except to sign up for the subscription for $9.99 and then go back into my Paypal acc after installing the paid Aeva and cancelling the subscription. Do you see any problem with this? Since the payment is for support, which isn't be offered, then ultimately it should all work out even right?

Thanks again for helping me with my psychosis Arantor.

Arantor

Well, I just looked at that page, and the instruction to PayPal is of type _xclick, not _xclick-subscription which means PayPal is being instructed to set up a once only payment, not a recurring one.

Most of the rest is still related to the way SMF itself (not specifically Noisen) handles paid subscriptions.

All good, I shall go forth and proceed with the purchase. Thank you for all of your help. Hopefully removing 1.4w and re-installing 2.X will be straightforward, or else I'll probably be back.  ;D

Cheers!

EDIT:

Went clean as a whistle (touch wood). If anyone is thinking of upgrading, it does appear as a subscription in your Noisen profile, but not recurring (set to end this date next year.)

Even though I uninstalled 1.4w, it also saved all my settings, welcome messages etc.

At first glance, I haven't noticed any specific differences, but I'll need to comb the options. If anyone feels like highlighting what extra features they like about 2.X versions over the free, that would be helpful too.  8)

Thanks again!

Back with a question Arantor!

I've been toying with the new playlists function, very neat. However I find if I try to add a video to a playlist, it doesn't work (it just doesn't add.)

So to clarify, I use a youtube video link to create an entry in an album, but when then adding that video to a playlist, nothing happens. Equally, I checked to see what happens if I check 'create a forum topic' in an album with just embedded videos, and the topic appears blank.

specifically, I get the message: (No items to show)

I've searched through the options, but can't find anything to enable videos in playlists in the fashion described here:

Arantor

I honestly have no idea about playlists, never used them, but here is not the right venue to ask about the commercial version's features.

Ah right. Ok, I'll try my luck on Noisen then, thank you.  ;)

I don't understand Pete why you never replied to me and just walked away without a sign of life.
