I just realized it didnt work with the theme i was using "alak". It works with the default. GREAT MOD!

Is there a way to turn off uploading ? I just want users to submit youtube urls.

Thanks!

Nao 尚

@dannyd> Err, check with the general permissions stuff? I'm not sure there's a permission for embedding but if there is, activate it and disable the upload perms...

This solved my problems, but now I haven an other problem. :(
I have a problem, too -- with people who don't care to thank someone before they ask for another favor.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

It seems theres ONLY "Add videos" under the SMF Gallery permissions which entails BOTH embed and upload. Should I just hack the code that handles the upload or is there an easier way that i missed. This mod was totally what I was looking for. I almost looked at coppermine... whew!

dannyd

Can you tell me which file to edit ? If i have to remove the code.

You'll have to ask Dragooon for that feature. He likes perms... I don't :P

Can somebody tell me where the code for the menubar is > I have Two Galleries showing on the Menubar for some reason !!, I need to edit one out,

Nice Mod by the way!...

Nao 尚

If you have two galleries on the menu bar, it means you reinstalled SMG without first uninstalling it... You're bound to reinstall your whole SMF at one point if you keep doing this -- the door is open to many site crashes are other funny things.

In SMF Download mod. when we add a file to a category, automatically a topic opened on a board if we enabled this function ofcourse.
So, can we do this in SMF Media Gallery Mod. Is this possible?
So Long

Nao 尚

Yes it is possible, but if we did that, where would people comment, uh? Would make more sense that they'd comment in the SMF topic... So we can as well drop our whole comment code. Which we won't, because we want to keep everything separate from SMF. "A locked topic", then? But what's the point? You can call getMediaItems() in SSI fashion to show the latest uploaded pics on your board... Or you can simpy add a link to ?action=mgallery;sa=unseen somewhere. It will show you all unviewed items... Including the new ones, of course. Similar to SMF's Unread Topics.

That's exactly what i'm looking for. Something like the calendar in the forum, when you create a new event it gets posted right away as a topic in one of the forums. After that, all comments are actual forum posts... I would be really happy with this kind of integration, which I think is perfect for my site.

Now, I could disable comments on SMF Media Gallery and dream of a mod that would automatically post an album with a specific format into a new topic? Do you think it would be easy?

BTW, I'm translating into spanish... ;)

Yes, but no.

Maybe Dragooon will do this as a non-free mod in the future. I know he's playing with the idea of creating external mods on a per-case basis and making interested users pay for them.

But, honestly, I wouldn't recommend using SMF's message system. If it had been done from the start like this -- okay. But now? We would have to create a converter for existing comments, change MUCH of the code, and what would be the point, really? What good does the SMF message structure add to the existing SMG comment structure? I don't think it adds anything...
What I *can* do, though, is to make comments look more like they're SMF messages. I've already started doing that a few betas earlier. But comments should remain what they are--comments.
Oh, and--if we were to use the SMF system, we would have to add much more custom code to the current SMF files, and it would probably make it even harder for us to update the mod along with the new SMF releases. We already have to publish three different modding xml files for three different versions of SMF... (1.1.x, 2.0 beta 4 public and 2.0 RC 1 for SMF beta testers...)

Oh sorry when I hurt your feelings, but normal I say thanks for every single help, check out my postings here in the forum.
But yesterday I was nerved and down, cause of all the problems I have with SMG. Since days I work at it and don't see any end of all the problems.
So calm down ok, it was not evil-intentioned.

I think that's the reason for all the problems I have:

okay, I get it...
going in the line of making comments and everything look more and more like SMF there could be a way to create a "gallery" subforum in the forum structures  and every new gallery could be displayed as a new topic. ONLY DISPLAY, which would mean if somebody clicked on that "topic", they would go to the album page with the SMG comments and everything...
sure it could be done manually but it would be so cool for it to happen automatically.

Then I would have a MEDIA forum with 3 subforums: Audio, Video and Pictures (see screenshot to see how I imagine it)

Edit: I just realised there's no way to comment on a whole album but only on each item!! In this case I could still think of an auto-topic of the gallery in one of my forums. People would then comment on whole albums through the forum and on single items through SMG. If there's a way to embed a whole album into a new topic...  :-\

Thanks a lot for help and explanations!!

Hi,

I completely uninstalled SMF Gallery Lite and SMF Media Gallery, i then installed SMF Media Gallery and everything installed via package manager with no errors and still get same problems. I have removed permanenlty now as i am very sure there are a few serious issues with the mod. Obviously it in RC so things are expected but will wait until a more stable bug free version comes out.

Thank you,
Mathew

It's close to release. It's very stable right now.
Your problem is not a problem other people here experience. If you have an habit of installing & uninstalling mods all the time, then you should simply take a note of all the mods you installed, completely reinstall SMF, and reinstall the mods. Preferably the "big ones" first, so that you can catch compatibility issues immediately.

PS: again--please don't compare us to SMF Gallery. We have no desire to enter a competition with that mod. If you like it better, use it. If you like ours better, use it. If you don't like either, don't use them. If you like both, make your choice.
