Do you have a link to your site? Where we can see your *huge* thumbnails?

BYUFanatic

When I right-click the thumbnails and look at the properties it shows 726 x 486.

How do you show user albums that were converted over from coppermine?  The access field was blank which I thought was the problem
Yes, this was fixed last week, but I don't know if Dragooon release the updated converter...

Quoteso I change it to show to everyone, but I still do not see any of them in the gallery.
Dunno, then...

QuoteAlso if I go to "my albums" and click on "Add user album" the url is correct but it just shows the homepage of the gallery.  So that isn't working as well.
What's your URL?

Is there any way of displaying the recent video on the first page ?
Yes.

Hmmm... I didn't get that link. Maybe because at the time I had English-UTF8 as my language so the link didn't show up?
Dunno.

QuoteBut, speaking of missing info on the screen - I still have the problem of being forced to go to ADMIN -> SERVER SETTING and re-save my language as "English" every single time I login to the forum in order to see everything showing up correctly in the admin area of SMG. Any idea why?
No. If we'd known, we'd have answered earlier, you know... It's not an SMG issue, obviously. You should ask the SMF team then. Or your host.

QuoteAnd, is it possible to re-size the video thumbnails?
Yes, but you'll have to resize ALL thumbnails then... Change thumbnail size and do the Regenerate process. (Although a bug in RC2 will probably make your generic icons not show up, and replace them with your video instead!! This is fixed in RC3... Coming soon! It's probably the reason for your oversized "thumbnails"...)

QuoteAfter I ran maintenance on SMG they went from being nice, easy-to-see multiple thumbnails on the screen at once to these HUGE oversize thumbnails (about one thumbnail per screen).
Err....

QuoteIn fact, I'd love to be able to attach my own thumbnails to the videos or to have SMG actually take a snapshot of the video instead of using a "filmstrip" icon.
Unfortunately, this can't be done, at least without the FFMpeg module installed... Means you have to have your dedicated server, probably. I'm in the same mess as you are. :(

PS: you didn't CC me your PM... ::)
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Thanks  :)

Edit: The embed URL was either bad or was from a non-supported site  :(

But, it's cool. I know ya'll are busy. *smile*

Good idea - I'll throw it out to the general SMF population and see if anyone has any ideas.

That's what caused the problem in the first place - regenerating process. Previously my video files had "filmstrip" icons that were 120x120 in size. I saw in the MAINTENANCE section that I could regenerate thumbnails I thought "Cool! Maybe they're using ffmpeg or something and it'll create video captures for icons." Nope. My 120x120 filmstrip icons were blown up to 720x480 icons. Odd thing is, sometimes the icons show up, and sometimes they don't. Haven't had any time at all to explore why (its the end of a grading period and I have 150 students I'm calculating grades for).

Wanna know what I want for Christmas? Auto thumbnailing that'll take snapshots from the video file itself. *smile*I've heard of ffmpeg and have looked at the syntax required to create thumbnails. It's not hard, but it is cumbersome. There are actually other programs out there that'll batch-create thumbnails for me, but then I have to upload both the videos and the thumbnails and match them up.

Think of it this way - my students create a lot of videos - projects that they do. I also create practice videos for my students to review what we've learned in class. I want to upload them to my server for them to review (and to also view their classmates' videos). I've looked at a number of packages but have not seen anything that does ALL of the following :

1 - integrates seamlessly into SMF
2 - allows for batch uploading without using FTP - it's blocked on school servers
3 - automatically creates video thumbnails

The KEY is that it must be QUICK and EASY. I just don't have time to manually upload dozens of videos on a regular basis. SMG comes the closest, so that makes me pretty happy. In fact, yours is the only one I've made available to my students. It might seem I'm complaining a lot, but I'm actually very happy I've found SMG. Once we can iron out the quirks on my forum I'll be even happier. #1 and #2 are highest on my "wish list" and if you guys do #3 then I'll definitely be one extremely happy camper.

@dannyd> Okay, that's like the 70th time someone's asking for that... Definitely not going to do that! Where WOULD we put the thumbnails, anyway? Do you really think there's room enough on a board index to show thumbnails somewhere without it looking awkward?

Again, I repeat: if we'd known (the answer), we'd have answered earlier...

QuoteThat's what caused the problem in the first place - regenerating process.
The Regenerate function was thrown together quite quickly (by Dragooon, but hush hush!), and it was really buggy. Mainly because I added a lot of extensions to several areas (album icons & generic icons, mainly), which the Regenerate feature didn't/wouldn't/couldn't support. Even until yesterday, we were positive everything was working fine, until I finally tried Regenerate myself, and had two bugs with it. Fixed them both, of course... But this time, it should work. Just wait for RC3... Hopefully it'll be released tomorrow, if Dragooon can get the SVN server back on its feet.

QuoteWanna know what I want for Christmas? Auto thumbnailing that'll take snapshots from the video file itself.
I would have implemented that long ago if I could have...
Unfortunately, it CAN be done, but only via FFMpeg, and you know what? I don't have FFMpeg on my server... Otherwise, I'd do it...

I even know the instruction to call:

ffmpeg -i "$Filename" -vcodec mjpeg -vframes 1 -an -f rawvideo -s 160x120 "$Screenshot.jpg"

Quote*smile*I've heard of ffmpeg and have looked at the syntax required to create thumbnails. It's not hard, but it is cumbersome. There are actually other programs out there that'll batch-create thumbnails for me, but then I have to upload both the videos and the thumbnails and match them up.
As for uploading separate thumbnails for the videos, it's in my to-do-list... But I won't implement it this week (or even this month). I have other priorities... Including getting a frigging final 1.5 out :P (Which is hard when you're spending most of your time developing new features because the new RC isn't coming out and you have nothing better to do ;D)

Yeah, well, it's Christmas soon, maybe a reindeer will come and visit you with a smile or something... Maybe a new competitor script... :D

I'm happy too... ^^ I'm not too happy about having to spend so much time on the damn thing, but it's cool being able to directly share my new features with the community. Haven't been able to do that since, uh... Since my good ol' days with Kyodai Mahjongg.

No worries about ffmpeg. Integrating it would be a very nice feature, but not required. If you noticed when you peeked at my forum, all my videos were FLVs. I use a program called Quickmedia Converter and it allows me to batch-convert all my videos - while creating a nice little jpeg of each one at the same time (to be used as a thumbnail). Now if I just had a way to batch-upload both of them (the jpeg and the flv) so that I could have custom thumbnails... (again, the key being in the ease and simplicity of it - I don't have time to babysit manual uploads of dozens of files).

Guess I'll just have to wait for it to hit the top of your to-do-list! *grin*

The real pain is that other packages I've looked at might allow me to batch upload, but they only let me do it via FTP, or I can batch upload, but I have to manually connect each thumbnail to each video myself. If SMG allowed me to batch upload the thumbnails and the videos and would automatically look for uploaded thumbnails (jpegs with the same name as the flv for example) that'd be cool. Lots of gallery programs work great with pictures, but have yet to find anything that is just as "friendly" when it comes to videos.

OK... gotta run... things to do, places to be. What I really need to do is clone myself so that I can get everything done that I need to!

I don't have time to read through 47 pages, so I apologise if this has been covered, but...

My browser crashes every time I try to do a Mass upload to an album. I use Mac OS X and this happen with all my browsers (Safari, FF and Flock).

Sometimes it happens when I hit 'Mass Upload' within the album. Other times, that's okay but then it goes wrong when I hit 'select files' within the Mass uploads screen.

Any thoughts??

47 pages is not that big... :P

I experienced that too, but very irregularly... Currently I'm not having any more problems. This might be because I updated the Flash file to the latest version ;) (Released this week.)
Here it is, attached. Unzip the file into your /Themes/default/mgallery/up/ folder (erase the existing swf file).
Tell us if it fixes the problem!

Companion thumbnails are much higher in the list -- and they're also more realistic to implement, because the FFMpeg solution will never allow you to choose which frame you want to use as the thumbnail...

No, it's still crashing I'm afraid.

I am using SMF 1.1.7 with a version of the gallery installed today.
