Neilbombd, your gallery isn't viewable to Guests.

Whoops, fixed that now, sorry.  Here's an example of what's happening.

Nao 尚

It says file not found. You should use the Regenerate Previews feature in the admin area. Then run a Check Orphans, Check Errors and Check Files trio of tasks. You should be good after that.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Thanks Nao!  Clicking "Regenerate Previews" gives me the following error: "Wrong value type sent to the database. Integer expected. (filesize)"

Nao 尚

Uh... Would you happen to have more details on this? File, Line number etc.
I guess this is an error from smg_insert_file_id() which in turns must come from mgal_createPreview().
In which case-- are you sure it's a SMG issue? I could only guess that your server can no longer load BMPs internally. Are you sure it regenerates thumbnails without failing?

Also try to run the other maintenance tasks before Regenerate Previews.

Unfortunately, that's all it tells me - no mention of line numbers etc.

I've only moved to this server over the last 24 hours, so I've no idea, this is my first time with SMG, and I really want to get it working as it looks amazing.  Here's what the SMG info panel tells me:

QuoteSMF Version: SMF 2.0 RC1.2   PHP Version: 5.2.9-0.dotdeb.1
PHP's Safe Mode is disabled, so it won't cause any trouble to SMG. Good thing.
The Apache mod_security module isn't installed, so it won't cause any trouble to SMG's Mass Upload feature. Good thing.
FFMPEG: NO
GD2:  bundled (2.0.34 compatible)
ImageMagick:  (IMagick: NO - MagickWand: NO)

Anything missing there that I really need?  If so, I can ask the server people to install it.

QuoteAlso try to run the other maintenance tasks before Regenerate Previews.

Tried all those, with Find errors I get a page full of :

"The physical thumbnail #487, used with item 173, is missing.
The physical preview file #488, used with item 173, is missing."

Hey, I love this mod but I'm having a problem that I just can't figure out.  :'(

When I go to upload a picture, I get redirected to an "Error 500" page. Also, I uninstalled RC1 and installed RC2, but in the admin area for the mod, it says that I still have RC1 installed? When I go to the packages page, it definitely says RC2.

Thanks!

I don't know if you remember my problem from a while ago, but basically my hosting service dropped all of my files and I had to reload everything from the backup.

When I reloaded it, it has messed up a lot of things, mainly the permissions for SMG (no users can add things, only the admin and there is not even a permission to change this)

Anyway, I have given up on that, since you said something along the lines of "SMG wasn't intended to be recovered from that size of disaster"

So now I install the new version, hoping that will help something and I am locked out of my Admin panel and this is the error I get.

Anyone have any suggestions?  I literally can't do anything with my site now.

*edit:
I edited out the SMG lines and it seems to be working fine for now.

I'm not getting it... This is your first time with SMG? Did you import the data from some other software? I thought you told me that you used to have BMP previews in SMG.

QuoteAnything missing there that I really need?
Nope... It should work. So it's not a server problem.

QuoteTried all those, with Find errors I get a page full of :

That's all you get? It just tells you that? The regenerate previews should fix that... Really strange.
And Orphans doesn't find anything odd either?
I don't know... I don't have time to help right now (or for the whole week actually.)
I'd say, go to phpmyadmin, set id_preview=0 on all entries in smf_mgallery_media, then run Check Orphans (it will delete all of the previews generated so far), and Regenerate Previews should regenerate everything from scratch. Of course, if the problem IS from your server and lack of BMP support, then you're screwed again. I really don't know at this point, I can't help at help without ftp+admin+phpmyadmin access to see your files... Not that I would have time for that anyway. :(

@car20> Uh... Rename MGallery.english.php to MGallery.persian.php?

What version did you use?

I don't remember, really. And I'm guessing it's best to reinstall it from scratch and then import back your files through the FTP Import feature, for instance.

What was at line 2894?

Sure, but... I may not remember your story, but your server still seems very crappy to me. Really.
Check file permissions by FTP.

Nao, you do great work!

No probs here, but I was thinking as I setup the Gallery, it's brutally close to being a Rate My (whatever) script.....The beauty of the Gallery makes it so it can be about anything from pics of things, vids, music, really it's limitless.

Instead of 5 ratings, make it 10 and it's done. It's really the only difference, other than they do include values by the numbers in most Rate My scripts.

For example, 1=yuck, .....................10 = Awesome

And Maybe a Block for Portals to pull randoms from a specific category......

Awesome work here.......! 8)

If I missed this in the 228 pages, my apologies!

Nao 尚

Uh... What are you trying to say, exactly?
What's the point in rating on a 10 scale instead of 5? Why shouldn't it be 20, for instance?

I used 10 because every Rate My script uses 10, At least all the ones I ever saw did.

And,

Bo Derek was  perfect  at 10.  8)

I think that movie tied the number 10 to perfection.....

If you saw something that was absolutely beautiful, and I agreed, and you said I'd give that a 5 or a 20, I'd say no bro, that's a 10... ;)

Most grading scales use 100% as perfect.....the 1-10 scale is simple math. Just add a zero to it. If you rated somehing at a 7, 7+0=70%......That's about a C....

Nao 尚

Let's be clear.... Here's how ratings work.

- First visitor: "Oh... I liked this. I'll rate it, say, 80%... Yeah, that's a good rating."
- Second visitor: "Oh... It's rated highly, but it's not that impressive. I can't stand that. Let's rate it 0% to give it its deserved rating."
- Second visitor: "Oh... It's rated 40%? But it deserves much better! Let's rate it 100% so that it gets a better rating."

At which point it gets 60%, including a 0 and a 100. It goes on like that. People usually don't give an item its "deserved" rating. They aim to get it to reach whatever rating they think it deserve. I myself rated a LOT of movies a 10/10 or 9/10 or imdb.com to get them a bit higher even if I thought they didn't deserve more than a 7, objectively.

So, all in all, the best possible rating system is something simple like "I like this!" or "I don't!"... People who just don't care will not rate it, that's all.

LOL!   You know, I used to work for a company that included ratings, etc as part of its offering...   and this was exactly the line that we suggested   1-5 or 1-10 ratings are irrelevant for the most part (although it "looks" good. The only thing that matters is X# liked it and Y# did not like it.
I'd love to see the 1-5 changed to like/dislike. :)   And now that you mention that, I may write a mod for smf to actually make that change....

Great Gallery, a definite contender to CPG
One can't really be compared a two-man work with a team work ;)
Although CPG is slower to progress than Gallery2, which definitely has more features than SMG. (Well, at least, last time I read their feature list, I kept thinking "okay, that one's useless... That one too... That one too... That one's cool but we did it differently... That one's useless...")

@Kindred> Unsurprisingly, I agree with you. But I don't think Dragooon would agree on changing it. Although it does make the whole thing simpler ;) But it could conflict with earlier ratings, so...
I'm thinking of adding a "like/dislike" option for topics in my site. Although I'm not sure how to best implement it... (Maybe there's already a mod for that?)

So far , an enlightening discussion. When it comes to mods, my #1 rule is, Beggars be not choosers, but I discussed Nao's Footnotes mod with him in the past, and figured what the heck....Oh, the Footnotes mod is superb, IMO.

My original intend was to suggest this conform more to a pure 1-10 Rate My. Then it sort of has a double purpose.....

Maybe a mouseover definition is a good suggestion, from what I am seeing.

IMO, here's how the 1-5 works for me. When you mouseover each number, it reveils it's meaning.....

1=sucks
2=I don't like it
3= its ok
4=I like it
5=Perfect, don't change a thing

The simple 'I like it/I don't like it', would work also, but personally, I need more.
If they left comments, then it works for me.

FaceBook uses just a single ' likes it' with membername included....so if you don't click that, I suppose you didn't like it......

Thanks for the discussion. MGallery is sweet!
