So far , an enlightening discussion. When it comes to mods, my #1 rule is, Beggars be not choosers, but I discussed Nao's Footnotes mod with him in the past, and figured what the heck....Oh, the Footnotes mod is superb, IMO.
That's my personal forgotten gem ;)
A mod that's not good because of its execution (which is fine by itself but very simple), but because of its simple, yet never seen before in a forum, idea.
I use it every other day on my long posts. :)

QuoteMy original intend was to suggest this conform more to a pure 1-10 Rate My. Then it sort of has a double purpose.....
Just as a reminder -- youtube itself uses a 1-5 scale.

QuoteThe simple 'I like it/I don't like it', would work also, but personally, I need more.
If they left comments, then it works for me.
Yeah, somehow that would be the best way of doing it. But simply saying "I like this" is positive. Might even be better than having a 1-10 scale and have someone rate 7/10.

QuoteFaceBook uses just a single ' likes it' with membername included....so if you don't click that, I suppose you didn't like it......
Yeah, they're using a positive attitude or something. There's no way of saying you don't like something. Although generally there's nothing to complain about in a blog or status update. After all, if you don't like it, what are you doing over there...
But I agree I would appreciate to see a "Dislike" button on facebook as well.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

But it could conflict with earlier ratings, so...
I'm thinking of adding a "like/dislike" option for topics in my site. Although I'm not sure how to best implement it... (Maybe there's already a mod for that?)
Yep already modded. Good Post And Bad Post is its name. But like/dislike system is not rating or not the same. Just think it.
(Example a movie from imdb)
1 - 986 Peoples like it | 425 Peoples doesn't like it
Or
2 - Rating is 6,89 (From 10/10).

First case, don't give anything from that movie. Because i can't understand "must i watch this movie". But second, say to "Watchable".
So Long

Nao 尚

Actually, the rating would be 6,98/10 because (986*10+425*0)/(986+425) = 6,98. (If considering that a "like" stands for 10/10, while a "dislike" stands for 0/10.)
Of course if I had to do a like/dislike thing, I would show both ways of calculating it.

Good Post Bad Post => hmm, not exactly what I was looking for... Still, I found plenty of mods that seem to do the job for topics. I'll have a look at them tomorrow. Thanks!

The RC2 version says it's RC1 in the settings.  Don't worry about it.

The yellow bar means that there's something you need to look at regarding moderation.  Go to the gallery tab and click on moderation.

It always has said that, and always will... You have a problem with your language files.

I'm running RC2 on the site now, but I am having some trouble with the permissions. I have given regular members access to everything short of mod/admin permissions and for some reason the "add an item to this album" link is not showing up in the general albums. I gave members access to create user albums and that didn't correct the problem either. My goal here is to make it so my members can add items to the general albums, but not be able to create user albums. Also, I don't see permissions for mass upload/download in the admin panel anywhere. What should I do?

Er... SMF > Admin > Membergroup permissions > disable Create User album
Make sure Add item is enabled, though.

PS: why do you have a link to Aeva in your sig? ???

@ Nao

Currently SMG is not listing a permission for Add item in my panel.
These are the permissions I have listed in Admin..
------------------------------------
Access Gallery
Moderate Gallery
Administrate Gallery
Access unseen area
Search in Gallery
Add User Playlists
Add User Albums
Auto-approve User Albums
View anyone's Gallery profile
----------------------------------------
Am I missing something?

p.s. just showing support, i will take it out if you want me to.  ;D

update: I went in and added a link that would appear to bring members to the add item page. although the box to browse for item to add is not appearing. I am guessing this is because members still do not have permission "add item". I have looked all through my admin panel and do not see a place to enable Add item anywhere. RC2 installed successfully with no errors. I even uninstalled and reinstalled again a second time to be sure. As of right now my members can view the gallery, but cannot add anything to it.

Am I overlooking something? Thanks.

When I have a submitted item waiting for the OK, I get the text.  When there's an item reported, there's just the yellow bar with no text.

OK I just added the SMF Gallery Lite Mod.....SMF 1.1.10

Everything looks like it went well. Just before it clicked install mad button........It said after the install.....i would have to make the gallery file writable.

I went into my cpanel and see no gallery file.

when I click the gallery button......the progam comes up with a red message.....

Warning Gallery path is not writable! /hermes/web09/b795/moo.storm/gallery/

why can't I find this file in cpanel?

Is this something that has to be done through myphp admin not cpanel?

LHW

SMF Gallery Lite is not the same Mod as SMF Media Gallery.

stormwatcher

oops.....i may have to remove mod and install the correct one,

sulla

I have a quick question. I have your great gallery installed but how do I do a complete backup of all the data including the images?

Kindred

images are stored as files....  information is stored in the database...   so, if you back up your database plus your site files you will have a backup of smf and smg

sulla you need to do it via ftp along with the rest of your site. All the images stored in your public html folders along with templates etc. Standard site backup procedure. The database (posts and settings) is stored separately in mysql and must be backed up separately. Common methods include internally via the forum or via phpmyadmin.

Check the user guides (on the top menu) for more info on backing up, as well as a million posts on the forum.

sulla

Normally I am doing a complete backup of all my sites and databases using cpanel about every week. And every day or so I am using the SMF admin "Forum Maintenance - Backup Database" to do the posts etc.
