(I finished implementing the latest version test... Now I'm going for the latest sitelist test, which is gonna be harder because I'll have to write the code to download it, eheh.)

The problem with HD is that it takes long to load. What if a video (like that lovely dancing video) has normal, hq and hd resolutions available? Should Aeva use hq, or hd?

Is it possible to put an indicator there for AEVA users to use? Something that would be for power users, but not as complex as a tag. You mentioned using something like #ws at the end of a url to switch, perhaps the same could be used for HD? Use #hd to select HD quality? It'd be a pain for dialup users, but so is HQ.
Do NOT PM me for support.

I would need a few testers please...

rev 39 adds this:

* Split Aeva admin page into two separate pages (Settings and Site List), to allow more breathing space in both section (Subs-Aeva-Admin.php, language files, install files)

If you're interested in testing this new feature (the site list is definitely slow to load, right?), you will find the download link here:
http://site.noisen.com/aeva-dev/5044/where-can-i-get-the-latest-goodies/

Thanks.

PS: this is tested to work well on my site (SMF 2.0 RC1). I would need to know whether install works fine on SMF 2.0 b4 and SMF 1.1.7.

Nao; I will be happy to run this on my test site to see what happens. I am truly sorry you are having a difficult time in other areas these days. As for the mod; the previous version that I used has worked great except a few kinks that came early on. Those have been long since fixed and I have not had any further issues even after upgrading to 2.0.4 Beta and running Simple Portal.

Thanks for your efforts and I will see how this new version goes.

:)

Maybe a "Click here here for HD" URL of course If it exists.

On my site there are several broadband users and maybe a small handful of dialup users.

(Okay, I'm nearly done with the site list downloading and stuff... I should have a beta ready for download tomorrow... Maybe it'll even be an official non-beta release... Should work perfectly on non-safe mode servers. As for the rest, I dunno.)

Well that was pretty much the plan when we used to have the HQ link issues... Remember? Sometimes the vids just wouldn't appear, when there was only a HQ version available and no normal version. Then YouTube fixed that recently...
I think somehow it'll be a combination of two-letter keywords.
#fsnq = normal quality fullscreen, #wshd = HD quality widescreen, etc.

Oh, yes... One of the issues with the non-tag route... I still don't have a solution for lookup sites when it comes to publishing a link to them. Hmm... Maybe I could make it so it links like this: [ a href=http://originallink]http://lookuplink[/a]. Aeva would just need to retrieve both URLs and make sure one of them is the lookup link. Then we'd be able to embed, and show the original link.

Phew... Managed to overhaul the admin area in less than one day :)

Committed revision 40, which you can download from the link above.

+ Added automatic sitelist updates (just go to the Aeva admin area from time to time and you're done)
+ Added automatic new version checks (you'll still have to download/uninstall/install yourself, though.)

This will best work when build 40 is online at the mod site (I'll upload it tomorrow if no errors are found).
Basically, if you go to the admin area, Aeva will check the mod site by itself and analyze the latest available versions of the Aeva mod (if it's newer than yours, it'll tell you to upgrade), and the site list (if it's newer than yours, it'll directly download it and replace your current site list with it).

There may be a few issues left, I don't know. I tested and it works. It's all I'm asking for, eh :)

Nao, will the new widescreen support you plan to add very soon automatically detect the most appropriate format rather than having to manually choose?

Nao 尚

Yes.

1- Actually i've installed and Uninstalled Old version of the Mod before some time...
2- during uninstallation there was not showed any Error(s)
3- the mode also removed from Mods List.
4- Even after this, Video Embedding was enabled, and working
5- But in IE videos shows twice, and in FireFox single/one (mean in FF working fine and not in IE)

Therefor i waited for a long time to get an improved version of the Mod

OK now it is disabled and right now the status is as 5-
check in FF and IE too

I can Give you Admin ID Pswd or provide you related files if required

Thanks for your Support

I didn't ask to uninstall, I simply asked you to disable the Aeva mod (go to admin area, aeva section, and uncheck the master setting then save.)
Just so I could see what the original source code says.

PS: videos are embedded twice in Opera as well, so it's got nothing to do with the extra use of the <object> tag for IE.

QuoteDid anyone try it at all?
Yes, but you are coding and changing much faster than I can test things ;-)

Environment is a test-setup with a new SMF2b4. Only one small mod installed (edit files manually).

First tested #39
As reported, manual unzip rezip is necessary
Then the packetmanager work without problems.
Add some Videos from different sources.

Notes:
If a video is not free to share on other sites, only the link is displayed.
(For YouTube it shows (External Embedding Disabled) but only if this feature is enabled before the link is posted.)
Both behaviors are intended as far as I know.

If I embed code like <embed src="http://
and use the html-tag to embed it, the video is shown twice.
Without the html-tag warped around the "Fix HTML objects" feature is working well.
Only to drop a note, not really a problem since only admins should (could) use the html-tag.

This morning:
Uninstall #39 with the packet manager, without problems.
New install of #40 directly afterwards.
Have to unzip & rezip (no miracle anymore) and the packet manager works without problems.
Enabled the Aeva again and found my #39 threads working well.
Add some music from lastfm and can't stop my beatific smile.
(http://www.lastfm.de/music/ is working / http://www.lastfm.de/listen/user/ isn't working

TodoA little comment about the [sometag] discussion. (No need to read this)
QuoteI'm still a fan of tags (by force of habit).
While playing around with Aeva a little bit, I try to argue the pro and cons (with myself).
I see the benefits for users if no tag is used.

  • Very easy to add some media even for the noobished posters
  • and the still intact link if somebody decide to uninstall the mod or if your decide to stop supporting this mod without somebody who overtakes it.
On the other hand, the basic (old school) intension of a message board is to post text – plain text.
Then there are basic formatting options to offer the possibility to make the text a little bit more structured.
Any of this formatting possibilities uses a tag to divide "code-text" from "normal-text".
If  I want to have a headline I use [b]bold[/b] or [u]underline[/u] something to point out.
If I want post an url, I expect an url shown in the post.
If I want post a link, I have to warp url-tags around and expect a link shown in the post.
So, everything that isn't plain text should have a tag to make clear "this is code".
(Do not mix it up with "This is Sparta!")  :-X

In my opinion, this is one of the reasons why the YouTube BBCode is so popular. It's a question of users who like to have their post in their own hands.
Press a button makes a clear statement: "Now I want to embed something". A [tag] is shown which tells the user: "Here you are, feel free to add something at this place".
A [tag] is something like a "poor mans preview".

@qayyom> What is the list of your installed mods? You say you disabled Aeva but your video is still being embedded... Also, the embedding code has nothing to do with Aeva's.

Oh, it was a rhethorical question really...

Also, my request for #40 was simply to test the new addition: automatic file updates.
The problem is -- the mod is still being installed as 5.1.36, while the remote file is only for 40 and above, so it's simply rejected by Aeva... (lol)
Of course, this will be fixed as soon as I release an official version with updated changelog etc etc...

QuoteNotes:

Yep.
AFAIK, only YouTube has this enabled, though. This could be done for more sites (e.g. Flickr video when I'll add support for it.)

QuoteIf I embed code like <embed src="http://
and use the html-tag to embed it, the video is shown twice.
Code included in [html] tags is protected from being processed by Aeva. If you want to enable processing (which will rewrite the embed code to something Aeva can deal with), you'll have the remove the 'html'-related code in Aeva. I'm not sure why Karl did it that way, but I'm keeping that for now. No big deal.

Regarding rev 39 and 40, if you installed rev 39 before, you don't need to reinstall rev 40 (just copy the modified files -- there aren't a lot).

QuoteI'm still a fan of tags (by force of habit).

How about arguing about it on the tag poll topic over at noisen? The poll is definitely in need of voters.... ;)

QuoteIn my opinion, this is one of the reasons why the YouTube BBCode is so popular.
I don't think it's due to that.

QuoteIt's a question of users who like to have their post in their own hands.
...which they can do easily through Aeva too.
[noembed]videolink[/noembed]

QuotePress a button makes a clear statement: "Now I want to embed something".
I also remember getting complaints from users when a video wouldn't embed automatically because they were so used to it ;)

im trying to update it but when i do i get a test failed here

./Sources/Load.php

never had that problem before

also to update a mod do you just download the same mod over the top of it ?

Nao 尚

Please attach your Load.php file here.

To update a mod, uninstall it, download the new version and install it.
New versions of Aeva will send a fatal error anyway if you try to install it over a pre-existing Aeva.
