How can I easily upgrade to 2.0 without losing any of my stuff?

Illori

following these directions Upgrading SMF will let you upgrade with little to no problems, remember to backup first.

mrpike

Can I simply just click "backup forum" in the Admin section? Or is it more complicated than that? GoDaddy is stupid I've come to figure out.

Illori

do this How do I backup my database? and backup your files. do not use the backup in the admin panel it is known to not do a complete backup.

mrpike

After will I need to re-install my messages that have been posted or will they transfer?

Illori

if you do an upgrade on the database you have installed smf on, your messages etc will be updated to the latest format, your old database will not work on the new version.

mrpike

Do I have to download a changlog?

Illori

no you dont unless you want to read it

mrpike

Ok so I'm transferring the unzipped files into Filezilla. I've backed up my forum in godaddy and also through the use of the admin panel.

The next step is to chmod the files right?

Illori

the next step is to read How do I backup my database? as you did not do a proper database backup

mrpike

Am I screwed?

I'm not very good with the computer things. I read "how do i backup my database" and thought that I did everything right.

Illori

you said you used the admin panel to backup the database, which can lead to a partial backup. if you followed the above you did not say you did it that way.

mrpike

I backed up my database in godaddy as well......

mrpike

Filezilla just got done transferring all of my files to my forum, my forum is still working and everything. It looks like nothing has happened, is there a reason for this?

Illori

did you override the existing files with the new? if so you need to run upgrade.php

mrpike

Yeah I overwrote them

is the backup I did right or wrong?

If it is wrong should I backup now?

How do I run upgrade.php?

Illori

looks like your backup is correct, you run upgrade.php in your browser Upgrading SMF

So when I type in my address like this www.yourdomain.com/forum/upgrade.php it brings up my main page

saying that the page doesn't exist.

Not my forum. Any ideas?
