I've taken a look at coppermine & gallery2 and sort of agree with you that gallery got more features

Gallery2 has tons more features than Coppermine does, which also makes it a lot more fun

For instance - you couldn't do short URLs with Coppermine.

There is also a converter from Coppermine to Gallery2, but I'm not sure how well it works. See http://www.angier.co.uk/drupal/node/15 for more info.

Gallery2 doesn't have a moderated mode (ie approve all photos before they're displayed), but other than that, it can do everything Coppermine can and a whole lot more too. See http://www.gallery-addons.com/content/view/64/124/lang,en_US/ for more details

that converter works (sort of)

If you want to convert from coppermine to Gallery, then install gallery2 v2.0
run the converter/importer
upgrade to gallery 2.1.1

The converter will not work on gallery 2.1 or higher...

It is quite stable. There are still a few bugs here and there, but I'm fixing them as fast as I can find them at this point, so if you want to run it on a live site, that's fine. Just make sure your users are aware that there might still be a few bugs here and there.

I have integrate my SMF with Gallery2 using Oldiesmann's mod. It is pretty stable and very easy to install. Theres a little, but critical, thing that happens randomly during the installation.

You can also make the gallery accessable from outside the forum. I run it on a life site. Had some problem for a few mins because of my mistakes. Shouldnt happen to you.

just FYI for everyone - this software is definitely worth the download. If you wanted Gallery2 on your site and didn't want to mess with integrating Joomla or any other CMS into the site, this is definitely worth taking a look at. Works well with Joomla installed, as well.

Please go to the project board and post a note in the "Testing Requests" topic (under "General Discussion"), and I will add you to the appropriate group when I have time. Make sure you include the version of SMF you want to test this with.

I think your project is a very good one! And I wanna...

For the past several months, I have been working on integrating Gallery2 with SMF (it started after I found that Coppermine didn't have everything I wanted). I am pleased to report that the integration project is moving along nicely and I will start beta testing soon. Here's a list of features:

Gallery displayed inside SMF - the gallery will be accessible via "action=gallery", so you don't have to worry about linking back to the forums.
Complete member integration - member accounts are created, updated and deleted in Gallery as needed, leaving users free to enjoy the features without having to login or register seperately.
Optional membergroup integration - This option will give you the ability to set up quotas and access rights based on what group a member belongs to.
Languages - Gallery automatically detects the user's language based on the user's selected language in SMF.

Some features included in Gallery2:
Modules system - add or remove functionality as needed - if you don't use something, simply deactivate or uninstall the module.
Individual galleries - if you choose, each member can have their own personal gallery, and can configure it to their likings
Sub-albums - create albums within albums
Comments system - allow users to leave comments on photos.
Highly configurable system - Choose what types of files can be uploaded, how big they can be and more.
Custom fields - add custom fields to albums.
EXIF/IPTC - customizable EXIF/IPTC information - choose how much information to display in both "Summary" and "Detailed" modes
