Well, it may not be that causing the issue then, before we can start getting solutions we need to determine what is causing the issues, just for the sake of ruling this mod out, for a moment, disable ads completely, then check again, if the problem still occurs, I would recommend stating that at the Support board you started at, and mention that the mod has been ruled out already. Then list all the mods you have installed there too.

I've deleted my ads. Problem persists. I should mention that when I was installing the mod I accidentally ran the install.php before I edited the files. Then I edited the files, then ran the install.php again, then I uploaded the other files. I don't know if that would cause a problem or not.

The Install.php file "usually" just adapts the database, it should not cause any issues, but that's really for vbgamer45 to say, as he is the author.

Did you actually disable the ads mod, just removing your ad code will not determine if the ad mod is or is not causing the issue.

I'm not getting any love in the smf 1.x support board. Is there any file or code that I can copy/paste here that might help someone to diagnose the problem? Likewise, is there someone who could fix it if they had temporary access to the site?

What is the next step you would recommend I take at this point?

We dont resort to that until we find a diagnosis, and you should only give any details about your forum to Support Team Members, they have a Green Badge above their avatar, it Says support on it.

Have you tried uninstalling the mod? If not try, see if the problem goes away then, post back results. :)

Okay. I will do. How do I go about uninstalling it?

Do I first remove the files that I uploaded, then upload the uninstall.php, run it, then go back and change all of the code back to the way it was originally? Or is there a simpler way?

Kindred

I see the potential cause... if you manually edited the files, then, I suspect that you edited the display.template.php incorrectly, replacing code instead of adding after (or something like that) since the ad mod will be displaying the advert just AFTER the first post, when that is turned on.

Just use the Package Manager, you do not need to change anything in the database.

In this case, the uninstall will fail the test for that file, and you could go ahead and attach that file so it can be manually edited.

Okay. I went to the display.template.php and looked for errors I may have made.

I think I may have accidentally replaced only the first line of the "//get all of the messages..." code with the code needed. This left two extra lines in there that were meant to be replaced. So I deleted those lines to try it out, and it killed the ability of the page to load at all, it just gave me an error message. So I put the code I deleted back, but I am back to where I was. So, here is the complete code from my display.template.php file. Wait a minute, I don't know how to put it up here and keep it small, with a scroll bar. Anybody?

YAHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   ;D

I kept fiddling with my display.template.php with no luck. So I just restored my backed up copy of it, then redid the mod, and now my posts are back and the mod works!!! Thank you guys for the help! You have no idea how much I appreciate it! Weeee!!!!

Glad to hear it was solved, checking any files that the mod edits would have been the next step. Good call kindred, saved some time

Well, now that the celebrations with that victory are finished, there are still some problems. Namely, I am not able to get my skyscraper ads to work. Nothing happens when I post them. There is no noticeable difference or errors, just nothing. Any advice?

Kindred

probably more incorrectly added code... (??)

Do you have any idea which file is responsible for that?

where is the skyscraper supposed to appear?

I actually don't know. I'm not sure if I am suppose to adjust the width of the forum to allow for space, or if it automatically adjusts itself for the tower ad. But it doesn't work on the right or left hand side for me.

Kindred

ah. the edits are probably in index.template.php then...

Okay, so once you mentioned the index.template.php, I had to ask myself, which one? The default or theme? Then I realized that the one I edited was the default, not the theme. So, as I was going through and editing the theme's index.template.php file, I noticed something else. When you get to the part where it tells you to find </td> I went through the whole file only to see there are like a dozen </td> tags. Which one does it want me to insert the new code in after?

elkingrey

Never mind. I switched to me default theme and found out that the ads worked there, so I knew that I must have done it right when I did it the first time. So, when I went back to redo it in the theme index.template.php, I put the new code after the very first </td> that came from the last edit. Anyways. Solved.
