Wow.

Not that it matters. But I honestly feel that is a very refreshing idea.

Allows for forum involvement. In four fold. Those who can make smiles. Those who try to make smiles. And those who will take time to look at the smiles and might join just to be able to vote. And those that do belong that will vote. As for the prize. Nice. I concede that is not a trip to the islands. But over all it is scaled correctly for the type of contest that is being held. Time frame for the contest is thought out. Long enough to draw contestants. Not so long that it is for gotten about or people loose interest in it as it dragged out to long.

Not saying that it is some great amazing idea over some of the other cool things SMF has done. But it is up there in one of the most refreshing idea's to draw people to the weaker area's like the smiles.

It's a contest. I guess lets not make it so hard that it turns people off. I don't think that the present scope of the contest is off the mark.

Okay, a couple of questions.

1. When does this contest end? Or does it end when SMF 2 is released officially?
2. I take it we can submit as many smiley packs as possible eligible for this contest. Is that correct?
3. If it is not my work, but a colleges work, and I have permission from them to enter it in the contest, with their name at the top of the credits, is that eligible?
4. Great contest, I can't wait for the winners to be announced, I'll submit my packs ASAP!

Trekkie101

Hi iKorp :)

1. It ends a month from the submission date.
2. You can submit as many entries as you wish :)
3. Its a grey area, we can look at it on a case by case basis and would want a way to contact that person.
4. Great to know, cant wait to see them!

:)

It is impossible to beat your level of talent. Let's just get the prize and give it to sreisen already :P
Anywho, can't wait to see the great smiley sets you guys make, because I can't draw (but I wish I could) :D

This competition is not tied in anyway to the 2.0 release schedule. However the latest topics in the Developers\' Blog give some information about the next releases

Quote...The standard 19 smileys and one blank smiley must be included.

Where are there 19??  I see 17 when posting a new topic, or replying to a topic here at SMF.  However, when installing SMF 2.0 RC1.2, I only see 16 smilies when replying to and/or posting a new topic.

Where are the rest of the smilies at?  Sorry if this is a stupid question.

H

There are some 'hidden' smileys. Take a look in the relevant SMF folder

Ok, so just now seeing that their are 22 Smiley's in this folder.  Which 1's are the standard 19??  OR Which one's aren't the standard 19??

EDIT:
Ok, just a wild guess here, but I believe that afro.gif, police.gif, and evil.gif are the 3 smileys that are not part of the standard 19.  Please, can someone back me up on this??

Thanks :)

I'm not interested in entering the contest (I'm not a contest guy really), but I'd like to suggest that if a decent designer does, may they give a try at a smaller smiley set? I've always found SMF's (and other boards) to be quite large for my taste. It tends to make the lines taller when a smiley is used in them.
Here are a few smileys I made myself (out of many more, you can see them in action over at noisen.com), basically I took inspiration from Invision's original set (and a few others) and used PunBB's smiley set size (which I believe is perfect for a regular Verdana font).

PS: please don't use any of them without my permission. I am very much willing to give it, though.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Aeva Media rocks your life.

Nice set there Nao.  I am currently working on a non-animated set.  But will probably do an animated set of the same type after that and will be submitting them both on here.  The set I am doing is 18x18 pixels (which is the max recommended in the first post).  Well, anyways, almost done, so better get back to it, while I have a tiny bit of time left in this day to work on it...

We're working on this now, blame me, I done a directory count and plucked my number :P

The standard 16 in an SMF install are the required ones, however the special ones would be nice to have too, expect a post later today with clarification :)

Nao, come on, give it a try, your work looks really good!
