1.2 Version still shows as older version

I moved the distribution into the packages directory, and it is still showing the red button as an older version.  I have 1.1b installed and at least partially functional.

I tried doing the uninstall of 1.1b, but got the usual flood of error messages for this Mod, so stopped the process, am debating moving forward with doing that and hoping the 1.2 can then be installed, and once installed will work.

The risk return seems weighted against attempting to do the upgrade, the reward seems to be an unspecified list of additional features, the downside seems to be killing what limited usability I am getting from Aeva at present.

I thought the problem with 1.2 showing up in the control panel as an older version had been fixed some time ago, should I be looking for someplace other than Simple Machines to download the latest version of 1.2 or is the distribution there the latest and greatest?

Any pointers appreciated

wiecher, dvd, have you tried to see if the button is present in the default theme? If yes, then this would point toward the theme being the problem which often the theme author can help with.

jay, one reason for errors when uninstalling Aeva is another mod is getting in the way. Some mods need to be installed and uninstalled in a particular order. One culprit for uninstalling Aeva returning errors is SuperAdmin which Bear here installed, set hidden then forgot about it hence errors uninstalling an earlier version of Aeva.

What other mods do you have?

In your signature line it suggests you're running at least two versions of SMF. Aeva 1.1b is recommended for SMF 1.1.x and v1.2 for SMF 2.0

Yeah, I have run into the other guy done it with the mods in the past, it would seem to be a problem that the developers have to work on, IE how to write a mod that is "polite".

I run several sites, and am in the process of upgrading them all to SMF 2.0 RC3, this particular site has been upgraded to SMF 2.0 RC3, not sure if I went direct to RC3 on this one or came though RC2, seems to add yet another variable to the stew.

To keep things simple I am running the default curve template

At present I am running the following mods, or perhaps they are running me (after a long day at the keyboard it is hard to remember who is in charge)

My concern is in the past I have gotten Aeva working, done a forced uninstall, then had problems getting it to work again. In fact I am not sure that what I have is working other than there is a gallery that seems to work and I can at least embed youtube videos in a forum posting by simply posting the URL, not really sure what other functionality I should be expecting from it.

I guess at this point I have two questions

1. I thought the problem with 1.2 showing as older than 1.1b had been fixed, it appears from my situation this is not true, should I be looking for a different place to download the "fixed" distribution, or is the download from the Simple Machines site as good as it gets?

2.  What are the odd's if I ignore the uninstall warning on 1.1b, and uninstall it that I will be able to get the 2.0 that I currently have to install?

And I guess a final question is what does 1.2 buy me over what I already have working with 1.1b?

No one answered my question five pages back, so I'm going to ask again. When I download the gallery files from FTP using my FTP client, the files I have downloaded are corrupted. With corrupted I mean that when I open a file, the photo does not look like what it should look like (for example, it has tearing and other weird things going on with it). Is this normal? How else am I supposed to back up my files? Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm going to be moving hosts very soon, so I need to move all the files to another host asap... please help.

noaccess, you were answered. we suspect that your ftp client is not downloading them as binary...

jay.clark, if you are having troubles, then I suggest doing a clean upload of the SMF file and then try installing the mods one by one instead of uninstalling and reinstalling.

dvd123, permissions control who can see the gallery and who can not. fix your permissions for the correct member groups in smf permissions AND the gallery permissions

wiecher, if the gallery button is not showing on the default theme then either a) you did not get a complete install, b) you are not using one of the supported languages which aeva pre-installs in or c) you need to activate it and fix permissions.

Tiribulus, it *IS* modifications.english.php (if you are using english, and not english utf-8). In SMF 2.0, you will also have to clear the server cache from the smf admin tools. (and possibly clear your PC's browser cache as well)

I'm running on SMF 1.1.11 - is that why embedding videos has quit working for me since I upgraded to Aeva Media 1.2?

Should I uninstall Aeva 1.2 and Install 1.1b? Were any changes made to the database with the 1.2 upgrade?

If I understand your suggestion correctly; you propose that instead of risking only the Aeva functionality, I should risk the functionality of the entire system, which represents several hundred manhours of effort on my part and currently has several hundred visitors a day.

Off the top of my head the risk return ratio doing your way is even more upside down, and I still don't know what I get from 1.2 that I don't already have from 1.1b

Is asking what the deal is with the newer version thinking it is older than the currently installed version such a challenging question?  As I stated I am pretty sure it mentioned as being fixed a while back, did I get that wrong, is senile dementia once again at my keyboard?

I had no idea. I never even tried it with 1.11 because it wasn't working with 2.0rc3 so I figured I must have the wrong file. Indeed it works in 1 and clearing the cache in 2 makes the changes appear as well.

In themes/default/languages/modifications.language.php find this:

And replace "media" at the end with whatever you want leaving all the characters except the word itself.

Just FYI -- some incompatibilities were found between AeMe 1.2 and SMF 1.x when it comes to the visual aspects. I tend to no longer bother about SMF 1.x because, well -- most people are using 2.0 by now anyway. I'll fix them, but I don't know when. Sorry about that. Use 1.1b if it bothers you.

Well, unless you have done a bunch of custom work yourself, I don't see it as much of a risk... I actually replace a production site with the latest dev version of SMF every month or two, re-installing the 10 or so mods into that usually only takes me 30 mins or so.

However... if 1.1b works fine, then you don't HAVE to install the update. Look at the changelog and see if you need it.

I take it from the forgoing that you don't have any idea why the 1.2 release shows up as being older than the 1.1b release in the Package Control Panel ?

I support microwave and data installations all over the world, I would get in a lot of trouble if I suggested building a new tower to the left of the existing tower on the off chance that it might do some good.

I have found tech support to be an art, not a science, I have to pitch what I tell people to their level of experience, most places in the SMF world I find that other folks do the same thing.

There are a couple things that I think should work on my current installation that apparently don't. My main reason for trying an upgrade was to see if it would clear the deck on them, however when the first and most obvious thing does not work out of the box, IE the standard "upgrade" choice does not work, and the system is clearly indicating that there is a problem with however it detects the relative age of the different releases; then I figure the best thing to do is ask for some help.

If anyone is knowledgeable about this particular problem I would appreciate some help.
