What version are you coming from, and what is the *exact* error message?
1.1 RC1, Outdated files

ukr,

Looks like the image files corrupted on the ftp upload. Firstly, verify they are not corrupted on your own PC - then upload them again in BINARY mode.

Purplemadness,

If the error message does NOT mention language files then it can only mean that either upgrade.php or index.php is out of date. Please verify that the top of index.php (In the forum directory) says:

* Software Version:           SMF 1.1 RC2

THEN check that upgrade.php says:

define('SMF_VERSION', '1.1 RC2');

at the top.

If it mentions language files then it is Themes/default/languages/index.english.php which is out of date.

If you have checked this, and you still get the error message then if you want you can throw caution to the wind by just removing the check. This involves deleting everything in upgrade.php from:

// Do they meet the install requirements?
if (!php_version_check())

down to:

<a href="', $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'], '?step=0">Click here to try again.</a>
</div>';

return false;
}
}

But that code is there for your own protection :)

Sorry, my fault, forgot to download the dutch language files, thank you!

When I started going through my files, I found several that hadn't been over-written from the upgrade file and physically changed them, clearing the Old Files error.

Upgraded from 1.0.5 to 1.1 RC2, upgrade went fine except when I try to make a post I get the following SQL error:

QuoteDatabase Error
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ' 2, 1)' at line 3
File: /testforum/htdocs/Sources/MessageIndex.php
Line: 102

Tried replacing the messageindex.php file and still getting the same database error message. Any ideas? ???

Was going to try the second solution posted in that thread but didn't see that parameter in the URL... so I tried the first solution & tried setting it to 5,3 & still same problem.... then I tried setting it higher to 18 & it finally worked; but I got this error:

Updating Settings.php... Successful.
Backing up old table data... Unsuccessful!

This query:
SHOW CREATE TABLE smf_collapsed_categories;
Caused the error:
Incorrect information in file: '.'

I then clicked try again but it failed this time around; URL displays as this.. http://www.**********.com/upgrade.php?step=1;backup=1;maint=1;substep=8

Grudge

That sounds like you need to run a REPAIR on the mentiond table in phpMyAdmin.

Hmm.. well I got past that step by just checking what tables it didn't backup & did them manually.. but now, for the life of me I can not get past this step..

http://www.**********.com/upgrade.php?step=2;maint=1;substep=126;s=1;m=100500;prep_lt=6

I have tried & tried & tried & tried & tried....... :(

If you have a big board that will take a long time. If you want to send me a link and ftp I can take a look. What does that step name say it is? PS - put your time out back down to like 2 or 3, not 18

Ok.. I will PM you a link & a FTP login.

I wasn't seeing any strict_step until just now for some reason..... now it was showing step27 I believe; I changed it to 28 & it timed out again, then 29 & 30 also... each time it timed out.

Insane Ninja

not to be a pest.. but i'm curious on if the demo will be upgraded..

i'm just wishing to see core and how the ajax editing appears to work more then anything.. i cant upgrade my forum just yet as i have a modified version of helios running.. and i'd rather wait until bloc does his upgrade first

Teknomancer

Just a simple question. Should I wait till I upgrade to 1.1 rather than 1.1 RC2 ?? Will it be easier upgrading from RC2 to 1.1. or will it be the same as upgrading from RC1 ??

This is because I have a custom theme that changes templates Post, Display, Index, MessageIndex, BoardIndex, Stats, Recent, Who, and Calendar...

plus I have Googlebot and Users Online today mod installed ...

Questions.....

I am on a 1.0.5 Forum.  I have a bunch of mods and a custom theme(Which I am not to concerned with).  But my questions are:

1) What will I lose when I upgrade from 1.0.5 to the new 1.1 rc2
2) What kind of time frame should I be expecting to upgrade it?

(I have such things as the shop, arcade, chat, and a few of the "info center" (which I see are automatically in this package) as some of the mods.  How will the stats and tokens and overall mods be effected on my board?)

I would wait until your shop and arcade mods are compatible with 1.1rc2 or maybe wait until 1.1 final is out. As far as how long it takes for the upgrade to complete depends on the size of your tables. The more posts and members you have the longer it will take. There are a few people that have posted there upgade time and post sizes farther back in the thread. When you do decide to do the upgrade I would suggest that you uninstall all your mods and then re-install with mods that are compatible with what ever version you upgraded to.

Ok so if I have to remove my shop and arcade, (for ex in the shop) I will have to manually add the tokens and such back in correct?  Because uninstalling it will remove those stats too?  Also will my karma be effected?  Or will that be ok in the upgrade?
