I know it's been asked, but when is 1.1 Gold happening? Should I wait for it or upgrade from 1.0.6 now? If Gold is coming out in the next couple of weeks...

There is no ETA for it yet.  We are not sure when it's comming out.  It can be days, weeks or even months.  You will jus thave ot wait for it to drop.  Just stick around :)

I always love the latest and greatest, but which one do I use if this is my first installation of any forum software on a new site. I see 1.1RC2 was released just a few days before 1.06 so there goes my theory that 12 comes after 06. Since I installed 1.1RC2 am I going to have trouble upgrading when the time comes, or does it really matter?
I read where someone asked if he had to be a charter member to use 1.1 but didn't see a reply to it.
The other admins think we should have used 1.06  ???

jsmith, 1.0.6 is actually different form 1.1 RC2

1.0.6 is a stable release in the 1.0 line while 1.1 RC2 is the second release canadate for the 1.1 line. While we incurage you to use the stable release 1.0.6 a lot of our users find 1.1 RC2 pretty stable and choose to use that instead as it is newer and has more features.

So I hope that cleared it up a little, and the choice is up to you. Also, 1.1 RC2 is available for both public users and our Charter Members.

Thank you sir that does help. We haven't seen any problems with it yet but then we're still scratching our heads over a few things too  :)

I installed RC2 about a month ago. I was using snitz
I haven't had any problems with it that I didn't cause myself. for the most part.
I'm currently running it on an 800mhz machine with 512mb of ram
It's also stuck about 15 levels deep in what used to be my site and running on a dynamic dns redirect to port 8080.

But other than being slow as moleasses because of the server it's on and the way it's configured, I'm impressed.

I'm getting a new server today *giggle* (I'm so computer geek excited it's not even funny) and a T-1 next week, so I would imagine that things will be a little better.

I'll keep you informed of my latest and greatest ways of breaking you awesome stuff.

Thanks guys

When i try to upgrade my SMF 1.0.5 to SMF 1.1 RC2 following error occurs:

---------------------------------------
SMF Upgrade Utility

Upgrading...
Upgrading log system...
Unsuccessful!
This query:

    UPDATE smf_log_boards
    SET ID_MSG = 0
    WHERE logTime >=;

Caused the error:

You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3

----------------------------------------------

Can anyone tell me what may be the reason and what do I do now?

Thanks,
Super.

Can't wait for 1.1
Just wanted to know when SMF 1.1 is likely to be released? I thought it would be this month.
The problem is choice

Be patient. Do you want something that is full of bugs because it has to be released to a deadline, or do you want the bugs fixed and tested properly? It will be soon.

This is what I like about SMF or one of many. Dedication to getting it right for the users over tossing something that looks good every 3 months. lol  ;D ;)

I have a feeling it will be worth the wait for 1.1 final.  :)

Make sure if this is a fresh install that you are usign the correct package and not the upgrade one.  Also verify that you have Settings.php and Settings_bak.php in your forum's folder.

And the answer to your questions is in that thread!

I am also looking forward to 1.1. final.
i am running rc2 on several full-blown sites and they work fine.

have you guys considered doing a third RC? in my opinion that would be good so that people get an even more fixed release candidate and dont report the same (maybe already long fixed) errors over and over again and  you guys can sort out better what problems people might have with the piece of software.

keep up the great work guys

daenney

Love it.
Have been running some test lately, upgrade quite a few community sites, getting people ready and drooling over SMF 1.1 on several other places around the web :D
And for the record, take your time, I prefer to wait a month or two and get a decent package than doing the phpBB style, release something, fix later.
I do agree with TarantinoArchives, the last RC was on New Years eve, about 3 months have passed since then and I'm sure a lot of progress has been made. I think we'd all appreciate another sneak-peak at was is coming our way and it might be good for the developpement process too, you won't get nay bug reports about stuff that has been fixed but we will be able to help discover new bugs and fix 'em

azuregenesis

i've actually been waiting for 1.1final to finally redesign my forum, but i think i'll stick with RC2 and upgrade next month. my forum need a serious change.

:) and for me, RC2 is quite stable. i'm surprise it just hasn't been labeled final already XD

but yeah :) keep up the good work!

Sheepy

It's good ot see that SMF has a patient user base.  This implies that SMF is indeed a rare gem among this big sea of free forums. ^^
